A Finnish-Belgian animated film released in 2011, also known as The Magic Crystal and The Elf that Rescued Christmas. An orphan boy named Yotan is captured by Santa Claus' Evil Twin Basil, who intends to use the titular crystal to kidnap all the world's children because he thinks that Santa is too nice to them.

Provides examples of:

  • Christmas Elves: Santa's workers are elves with blue skin and pointy ears. Santa, Basil, and Maya also have pointy ears, but they have a normal human skin color.
  • Covers Always Lie: On the poster as seen on the page image, the elves have human skin colors, while in the movie they have blue skin.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": Poro is a reindeer, and his name is Finnish for "reindeer".
  • Evil Brunette Twin: Basil has a black beard and Santa has a white beard.
  • Evil Twin: Basil to Santa.
  • How Can Santa Deliver All Those Toys?: It's shown that he uses the magic stars to duplicate himself.
  • I Lied: Basil promises to the elves that he won't try to usurp Santa if Jaga and Didi give him their stars, but immediately proceeds with his evil plan once they give them to him and says "I lied".
  • Lions and Tigers and Humans... Oh, My!: Poro is an anthropomorphic reindeer in a world of humans and elves.
  • Mecha-Mooks: Basil has robotic minions called the Robotics, though it's subverted when they later turn out to be green creatures in robot suits.
  • Mrs. Claus: Here named Maya.
  • Orphanage of Fear: Yotan initially lives in an orphanage with an abusive owner, who yells at him for wasting time helping people and not doing his chores quickly enough.
  • Saving Christmas: Basil's evil plan is to kidnap all the world's children on Christmas, which the heroes must stop.
  • Self-Duplication: The magic stars allow their user to make duplicates of themselves, which is how Santa delivers his presents.
  • Sibling Seniority Squabble: Santa is two minutes older than Basil, which is what allows him to be Santa Claus. Basil is very upset about this.
  • Talking Animal: Jiffy is a squirrel that can talk with no explanation given.
  • Usurping Santa: Basil wants to become the new Santa Claus because he thinks the real Santa is too nice to the kids.
  • Volcano Lair: Basil's lair is on top of a volcano, despite being made of ice.
