Quest for a Heart (Finnish: Röllin sydän, "Rölli's Heart") is the third film based on Rölli, having been released in 2007. It is the only animated one in the series, as well as the only one to have been dubbed into English.

The film takes place in an alternate continuity to both the previous movies and the TV series. It begins with Millie the elf getting captured by the Rollis, troll-like creatures who call themselves evil but aren't really that bad. They let her go upon finding out that she's looking for a Magic Heart of Understanding to save the forest from turning to stone. Rölli, Lackey, Cacophony, and Longwind join her on the quest, to get the heart for themselves to make the Rollis mightier and even more "evil".

Provides examples of

  • Adaptational Heroism: Lackey first appeared in Rollo and the Spirit of the Woods where he was an unrepentant Jerkass and the Big Bad due to being at the front of the Rollis' hostilities towards the Elves. While he's still in this movie a jerk and volatile towards Millie, he gradually turns out to be a Jerk with a Heart of Gold to the point of being as saddened as the others by Millie's Disney Death.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Big Rölli is friendly to the heroes and only appears scary at first, unlike in the previous iterations where he has a tendency to intentionally scare and threaten them.
  • Berserk Button: Rölli gets angry when Millie calls him a troll and rants that he's never been called that before.
  • Bewitched Amphibians: Inverted; the Rollis and Millie meet a frog princess who has been turned into a humanoid princess by a witch and needs to be kissed to be turned back into a frog.
  • Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Yeti: Big Rölli is in this continuity the Abominable Snowman. Though he acts scary at first, he quickly turns out to be a Gentle Giant and is allowed to become a member of the Rolli village since he looks like a gigantic Rolli.
  • Bound and Gagged: When the other Rollis thing Millie is a threat in the beginning, they tie her up and gag her before carrying her to their village.
  • Brick Joke: In the end, Billy the Bug, who was eaten by Buttercup near the beginning, gets coughed back up and decides to become the pig's conscious, but gets chased away.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: The Rollis call themselves "bad", and when Millie says that she's good, they try to burn her alive. Otherwise they're not that villainous, though.
  • Chekhov's Gun: While preparing for the journey, the Rollis bring along three pebbles with the reasoning that you can never know when you might need them. When Millie dies and falls at the bottom of a river, Rölli uses the pebbles to strike a lily pad three times as a calling to the frog princess whom he asks to bring Millie's body back to the surface.
  • Comically Small Demand: When the Rollis, who pride themselves on not washing themselves, ask the Sage of the Sauna information about the Heart of Understanding, he only demands that they go to the sauna twice a year as payment for the information.
  • Disney Death: Millie dies when Cacophony accidentally shoots her, but is revived by Rölli giving her his magic heart.
  • Dramatically Missing the Point: After witnessing Millie using an arrow to bring the magic heart from a cave's ceiling, the Rollis believe they can remove the heart from Rölli the same way. What they fail to get is that Millie used a special arrow to get the heart and shooting Rölli with one of her regular arrows would kill him.
  • Easily Forgiven: After Millie is resurrected, she doesn't hold a grudge at Cacophony for killing her by mistake just a moment ago.
  • Elves Versus Dwarves: Millie the elf clashes with the troll-like Rollis, who pride themselves for not bathing and call themselves "bad".
  • Hair-Trigger Avalanche: At one point, Lackey's careless shouting causes an avalanche, causing the Rollis and Millie to get trapped in a cave.
  • Magic Music: Millie and Rölli use a special song to make the northern lights show the way to The Land of Great Fears and Fright.
  • Murder by Mistake: When the other Rollis get tired of Rölli constantly spouting his wisdom, Cacophony tries to shoot his magic Heart of Understanding to turn him back to normal, which is treated as being akin to killing him, but accidentally shoots and kills Millie instead.
  • Never Given a Name: The abominable snowman doesn't know what his name is one Millie asks, so the Rollis decide to call him Big Rölli.
  • "No Peeking!" Request: Rölli agrees to kiss the frog princess only if the others look away. When he notices them peeking over their shoulders, he makes this request and finally kisses the princess when they comply.
  • Opening Narration: In the beginning, a voice narrates how the Heart of Understanding was forged by spirits hundreds of years ago.
  • Oracular Head: The Sage of the Sauna appears as a disembodied head made of smoke.
  • Pike Peril: The Rollis and Millie are threatened by a giant pike, which destroys their boat. But when the pike ends up on the shore, they help it get back to the water.
  • Post-Kiss Catatonia: Millie's kiss at the end leaves Rölli frozen with a grimacing expression until she has left.
  • Power Makes Your Hair Grow: When Millie comes back to life thanks to the magic heart, she gains longer hair in addition to the ability to bring back to normal everything turned to stone.
  • Public Execution: When the Rollis capture Millie, they decide to burn her alive simply for saying that elves are good.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: The Smart Guy Longwind is an inventor who wears glasses.
  • Taking the Bullet: As Cacophony shoots Rölli in an effort to remove the heart, Millie takes the arrow and dies instead.
  • Talking Animal: The leader of the Rollis has a talking wolf named Lupo.
  • Tiny Guy, Huge Girl: Millie the elf is a lot taller than Rölli and most of the Rollis in this film.
  • Tomboyness Upgrade: Millie is an archer with short hair and pants, unlike in her previous appearance in Rollo and the Spirit of the Woods, where she was more feminine. She gets longer hair and a dress when Rölli gives her the magic heart, though.
  • Uncleanliness Is Next to Ungodliness: When the Rollis, who consider themselves bad, capture Millie in the beginning, they're shocked to see that she washes herself, and are scared of brushes and washclothes and horrified upon finding out that they have to go to sauna to talk to the Sage of the Sauna.
