Princess Dragon is a 2021 French animated movie by Ankama Animationnote .

Bristle is a little girl raised by dragons. She breathes fire and is as strong as ten men, yet she is not actually a dragon - at least not in appearance. When her father Dragon must repay a debt to Sorcerog, Bristle is given away to the froggy witch. Driven to despair, she flees the family cave with her new friend Princess and embarks on a journey of discovery into the world of humans. Among them, she will learn the meaning of friendship and solidarity - and greed, which seems to eat away at humans’ hearts.

Princess Dragon provides examples of:

  • A Dog Named "Dog": Dragon, King, Queen and Princess are all named after their roles in the story.
  • Breath Weapon: Dragon and his family all sport impressive fire breath. Even after Sorcerog curses them to lose their fire and flight, they can still unleash a rather nasty concussive blast.
  • Child of Two Worlds: Although Bristle was born and raised in Dragon's cave, her human appearance sets her apart from her kin and allows her to interact with humans without immediately scaring them off.
  • Defends Against Their Own Kind: When Bristle brings Princess home to shelter her from a storm, she ends up having to protect her new friend from her father. At the climax, Princess races against time to help Bristle and stop her father King from razing Dragon's den to take his treasures.
  • Delightful Dragon: Bristle lacks the distrust of humans her father has and as such is far more curious and playful around them.
  • Dragon Hoard: Dragon's most prized possession is his dragon hoard. He eventually comes to realize he values his children - all of them - far more than his riches and concedes his wealth to Sorcerog instead of Bristle.
  • Girl in the Tower: Queen's prison suite is at the top of a tower.
  • Humans Are Bastards: With the exception of Queen, Mimi and Princess, pretty much every human we see turns a blind eye to suffering - both that of animals and of fellow humans.
  • Luxury Prison Suite: King keeps Queen at the top of his prison tower in retribution for her giving away his riches, but her chamber is still as well-appointed as one might expect for royalty. Ultimately what distinguishes this from a Gilded Cage is that Queen is explicitly imprisoned behind bars and that the tower has other much less luxurious rooms for other prisoners.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Bristle appears human and retreats into an egg when she is at her most distressed, but otherwise the dragons in Princess Dragon are mostly of the classic sort.
  • Raised by Wolves: Justified - although Bristle appears human, her father Dragon recognizes her as a dragon because of her fire breath.
  • Wanted a Son Instead: Downplayed - although King clearly would've preferred a male heir and finds that Princess takes far too much after her mother, the plot focuses more on his greed than his chauvinism.
