From the Stone Age to the Space Age!
Oggy and the Cockroaches: The Movie (also known as Oggy et les Cafards, Le Film in French) is an animated comedy family movie that premiered on August 7, 2013 in France. This film is based on the hit animated series called Oggy and the Cockroaches.

Unlike the series it's based on, the movie takes place over four different time periods (13,327 BC, 1,350 AD, 1,899-1,900 AD and 27 BBY), showcasing different incarnations of the titular characters and their Herculean battles.

The fifth season of the series would follow up on the film's template and also feature historical setpieces.

This film contains examples of:

  • Ambiguous Ending: Oggy-Wan Kenoggy's body parts fall onto a planet then reform into the amoeba-Oggy seen at the beginning of the film then the prologue is shown again. Whether this is the same sequence seen at the start of the film that was shortened for the ending, indicating that the Star Wars segment is a prequel to the three other parts and the show itself (the original franchise ''does'' take place "a long time ago" after all) or this is a different sequence, indicating that the feud will continue in a different time and place is up for debate.
  • Arc Villain: The Cockroaches fill this role in every segment except the last one, where Bob is the main villain.
  • Art Shift:
    • This film begins with a Parody of Evolution where the art style is much simpler.
    • Oggy-Wan Kenoggy is in CGI until the part where Oggy's body parts land in the ocean.
  • Avenging the Villain: It's implied in the "Prince Oggy" segment that Joey tried to kill Oggy I because he did the same to his father (who's implied to be as villainous as Joey himself is).
  • Bag of Kidnapping: The roaches utilize one on Olivia.
  • Bedsheet Ladder: Prince Oggy sews one up from the curtains in Olivia's tower.
  • Brits Love Tea: During the third quarter of the movie, set in Victorian England, there is a lengthy scene where all the characters discuss over tea.
  • Butt-Monkey: Oggy, Jack and the Cockroaches, just like in the show. However, Jack has it unusually worse compared to everyone else.
  • Captured on Purpose: The roaches let themselves be arrested and jailed for stealing an important key so they can steal something just as vital: a bomb!
  • Circling Birdies: After Oggy Magnon gets beaten up by vines, a pair of circling pterodactyls appear over his head. Later, in the same segment, two real birds fly around Bob's head for a few seconds when he takes a couple of hits from Jack's club.
  • Clock Tower: Big Ben, of course.
  • Cool Crown: In the "Prince Oggy" segment, Oggy I is a king who sports a crown.
  • Cover Innocent Eyes and Ears: Jack briefly covers Olivia's eyes when Prince Oggy and Joey commence their sword/swatter fight.
  • Cranial Eruption: Jack gets a tall one after charging into the wall at the cockroaches' Trafalgar Square hideaway.
  • Damsel out of Distress: A subverted example. In the second segment, Olivia tries to escape the cockroaches after they kidnap her. While it originally appears she was going to escape, Bob foils her attempt.
  • Destination Defenestration: During the police's struggle to arrest Jack, a police officer is sent crashing out the window.
  • Dissonant Serenity: After convincing some piranhas to attack the titular cat in "Oggy Magnon", Joey just smiles nonchalantly. It's more egregious given he's implied he was trying to kill or seriously hurt himnote . While less noticeable, he also smiles casually several times during his sword/swatter fight in the "Prince Oggy" segment.
  • Door Judo: The cockroaches do this to Jack when he tries to charge at their door in the Victorian segment.
  • Double Weapon: In the final segment, Joey's Laser Blade is double-sided.
  • Dreadful Musician: Unlike Sherlock Holmes, Jack plays the violin poorly.
  • Falling-in-Love Montage: In the first segment, Olivia and Oggy explore the former's home and fall for each other in the process.
  • Feet-First Introduction: A played with example. Joey, who's a villain, is introduced foot-first in the third segment. However, this isn't when he's first introduced in the series.
  • Finger in the Mail: Not as violent as some cases, but still. In the "Prince Oggy" segment, Joey sends the titular character some of Olivia's fur as proof he and his cohorts were holding her hostage.
  • Forced to Watch: In the section "Prince Oggy", Joey tries to kill Oggy I while making his kingdom and family watch.
  • Frame-Up: In his Evil Plan in the third segment, Joey frames Jack for stealing the Big Ben's key.
  • The Freelance Shame Squad: In the "Prince Oggy" segment, numerous people laugh at the titular kitty after he experiences an Epic Fail.
  • Furry Reminder: Jack tends to lap up his tea.
  • Giant Spider: One tries and fails to make a meal out of Oggy Magnon.
  • Girl in the Tower: Olivia is captured and held by the cockroaches in one.
  • Gratuitous English: Sometimes, English is used in the Hindi dub (e.g. "I will miss you, Oggy").
  • Hand Rubbing: When he's in the sinister mood, Joey sometimes rubs his hands together.
  • Here We Go Again!: The movie ends with another generation of Oggy and the Cockroaches being created which causes them to fight again. Of course, that assumes this actually isn't the same segment shown in the beginning...
  • Historical Domain Character:
    • Queen Victoria. The cockroaches plan to blow up Big Ben and her with it.
    • A deleted scene has Jack as Vercingetorix and Bob as Julius Caesar.
    • Another deleted scene shows Oggy, Jack and Bob as soldiers in Napoléon Bonaparte's army.
  • History Repeats: The whole movie is about Oggy and the Ccckroaches' battles throughout history.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Jack reflects Bob's own laser back at him in the final segment, which defeats him and destroys his ship.
  • Idea Ding: A "ding" sound plays when Joey concocts an Evil Plan in "Prince Oggy".
  • It's Personal: Although you can use one hand to count the times Jack got along with Joey, he clearly has it out for him more than ever in "The Incredible Oggy Watson" section. It has nothing to do with Joey sadistically dropping him off a cliff, which was apparently done in an attempt to kill him.
  • I Want Grandkids: Prince Oggy's mother would really like for her son to get hitched so she can get some grandchildren.
  • Killed Off for Real: Oggy-Wan Kenoggy, Dee Dee, Marky and Joey are incinerated by Bob's death ray. After it's destroyed, Oggy's remains fall onto the planet Bob was attempting to blow up, revealing it to be Earth as his cells jumpstart life on it.
  • Laughing Mad: Compared to most of Joey's laughs, his laughter during one of his attempts to steal fire in "Oggy Magnon" sounds unstable.
  • Letting the Air out of the Band: The romantic music that plays during Prince Oggy and Olivia's Twirl of Love peters out when she throws him across the room by accident.
  • Love Floats: As in modern times, Olivia can make Prince Oggy do this.
  • Magic Skirt: When Jack drops Olivia, she's left sprawled on the ground with her legs pointing upward. Thankfully, her dress somehow still points upward as well!
  • Meadow Run: With Prince Oggy and Olivia, except it takes place in a tower.
  • Meat-O-Vision: Some prehistoric piranhas briefly see Oggy Magnon as a chicken with a cat-esque tail.
  • Monumental Damage: Although the protagonists keep it from blowing up, Big Ben still manages to lose several gears and a face — which falls right on top of Queen Victoria.
  • The Movie: Right there in the title.
  • Monument of Humiliation and Defeat: An inversion as they're heroic examples. Oggy I has a statue carved of him defeating Joey's father, who's heavily suggested to have been as evil as his child is. After his son defeats the cockroaches, a statue gets carved of him chasing them while they're freaking out.
  • Music Soothes the Savage Beast: And, in Bob's case, distracts him.
  • New Year Has Come: The cockroaches attempt to kill Queen Victoria on New Year's Eve 1900 using a bomb.
  • Ocular Gushers: Played for Laughs. During his Villainous Breakdown in the "Oggy-Wan Kenoggy" section, Bob starts crying a river worth of tears.
  • Parody of Evolution: In the intro, Oggy evolves from a microbe into a cat. The problem? He evolved straight from a fish into a cat. However, the earlier segments are somewhat more accurate, where he evolved into a Pikaia (?) and then an early fish.
  • Puppy-Dog Eyes: The medieval cockroaches give tearful-looking and rather wide eyes to Olivia so she'd pity them and get Oggy to spare them. She also makes wide and sad-looking eyes herself to convince him into doing so. Later in that segment, Joey tries the same tactic on Prince Oggy to get him to show him mercy. While some meat fell on him before the feline could react, it's unlikely at best he would've spared him. In the Star Wars segment, he tries it again on Bob to no avail.
  • Running Gag:
    • "La Cucaracha" playing at least once per segment (except for the Star Wars one)
    • Marky and Dee Dee arm wrestling.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After unintentionally taking out the town's fire (which he was trying to steal) in the first segment, Joey escapes upon realizing its leader was nearby. (It Makes Sense in Context.)
  • Shown Their Work: A subtle example: In the beginning, Oggy evolves from a microbe into a cat. If one looks closely, after he becomes a jellyfish, he evolves into a worm-like thing (Possibly a Pikaia) and into an eel (Possibly an Agnathan fish).
  • Smelly Feet Gag:
    • Oggy Magnon's are stinky enough to knock out a giant spider that wanted to make a meal of him.
    • In the Victorian segment, the cockroaches' socks are so smelly, their juices can actually dissolve metal!
  • Stealth Prequel: The Star Wars segment ends with the Parody of Evolution seen in the film's prologue, revealing that it takes place before the others. Of course, that assumes this actually is the same segment shown in the beginning...
  • Steampunk: Victorian England is full of steam-powered cars and flying machines.
  • Stock Scream: The Wilhelm Scream can be heard when a police officer is knocked out of Holmes and Watson's office.
  • Sword Fight: Actually, sword and swatter fight.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: The cockroaches in the third segment: they attempt to assassinate Queen Victoria with several other people's lives as collateral damage.
  • Twirl of Love: Olivia picks up Prince Oggy and spins him around after they reunite then accidentally flings him into a mirror.
  • Villainous Breakdown: These occur several times. In "Prince Oggy" for instance, Joey's Slasher Smile gets wiped off his face and he's left trembling in fear when his back is (both literally and figuratively) against the wall.
  • Villains Want Mercy: Although it's subtle compared to many examplesnote , the cockroaches do this in the second segment via giving Puppy-Dog Eyes so Olivia would convince the other cats to spare them.
  • Westminster Chimes: Heard in the Sherlock teaser and when Olivia explains that her stolen key unlocks Big Ben.
  • Window Pain: A map leading to a restaurant is delivered to Jack and Oggy Watson this way.
  • Your Size May Vary: The insectoid creature that appears in 1899 can be either a little taller than the cockroaches or as big as the cats.
