Thor is the illegitimate, half-human son of the King of the Gods Odin who dreams of becoming a great warrior just like his father. Unfortunately, his father isn't exactly the god he used to be, he and his armies having grown complacent on mortal worship. Meanwhile, Hel and the King of the Giants have procured Odin's eye and are now set to storm the gates of Asgard.
Legends of Valhalla: Thor, also known as Thor: Legend of the Magical Hammer is an Icelandic Family-Friendly Animated Fantasy film co-produced by CAOZ, Ulysses and Magma Films that was released in October 14, 2011.
Film provides examples of:
- Adaptational Dumbass: In Norse Mythology, Odin Allfather was famed for his wisdom and cunning, having established his authority over the Nine Realms using trickery and strategic warfare, having sacrificed his eye to achieve supernatural wisdom from Mimir's well. Here, Odin is portrayed as a lazy lout who's grown complacent with all of the free food his worshippers give him, and ends up losing his eye out of carelessness with Mjolnir.
- Adaptational Species Change: While in mythology Thor was the love-child between the god Odin and Jord, Giantess that embodied midgard, here he is half-human.
- Adaptational Villainy: In Norse Mythology, Hel was a cthonic goddess who, while not exactly friendly, was a fair goddess that kept to herself. Here she's the Big Bad, launching a campaign of war against Asgard alongside the Giants as revenge for her disastrous love affair with Odin.
- Adaptational Wimp: In Norse Mythology, Fenrir was a genuinely ruthless and cunning Beast of the Apocalypse. Here he's just Hel's pet, and not a very bright one at that.
- An Ice Person: Hel's primary ability is to freeze people in blocks of ice.
- And I Must Scream: The film ends with Hel being imprisoned in ice by her own magic sword with nothing but King Thrym — who had been rendered senile by Old Age — for company. With Odin's eye still in her head, she's forced to watch Odin revel in his victory as Thor is celebrated as a hero for defeating her.
- Animate Inanimate Object: This version of Mjolnir — here simply called "Crusher" — has a face and a personality all his own.
- Big Bad Duumvirate: While Hel is clearly in charge, she had also allied herself with King Thrym of the Giants.
- Everybody Hates Hades: Hel is explicitly the Queen of the Norse Underworld and, unlike in myth, is an enemy of Asgard.
- Fantastically Indifferent: Everyone knows and accepts that Thor is Odin's son, though it doesn't seem to afford him special treatment from anybody.
- The Gods Must Be Lazy: By the start of the movie, Odin had long since stopped caring about the Vikings that worship him and is content to sit on his throne and stuff himself fat with their offerings. When Hel's campaign of devastation in Midgard begins, he finds that his army of honored dead are too out of shape to make any headway and thus has to go to his bastard son Thorfor help, Crusher the only thing capable of saving them.
- Humans Are Special: Both Odin and Hel agree that humanity's hat is their overwhelming emotional diversity and the strength it gives them, Thor's willingness to free his friends in spite of the dangers being his defining trait.
- Nay-Theist: Thor's mother thinks of Odin as a deadbeat that is unworthy of the mortal's offerings.
- Rapid Aging: Old Age gets her namesake because fighting her causes Thor to rapidly age.
- Sadly Mythtaken:
- In Norse Mythology, Odin willing gave up his eye to Mimir's well to partake in its magical wisdom. Here it's literally knocked out of him by Mjolnir when he misuses it.
- In Norse Mythology, Mjolnir was commissioned by Asgard to be used as a weapon specifically for Thor. Here the dwarf who made it tried to sell it to Odin and it just fell into Thor's lap by accident.
- Thor wasn't the son of a human woman. He was the son of the Earth.
