B.O.T. and the Beasties is a 2021 British cartoon by Ragdoll Productions for CBeebies. The show follows the adventures of B.O.T. (Beastie Observation Transmitter) a small robot on the hunt for new beasties.
Tropes:
- Action Figure Speech: B.O.T. can't talk, however he's got every expression he can handle. However he does bounce when excited, look annoyed after being trampled and so on.
- Absurd Phobia: Just briefly before losing her fluff, Fluffy Trembler screams after touching noses with B.O.T.'s camera.
- Batman Can Breathe in Space: Everyone can, despite living on 5 small planets in space.
- A Dog Named "Dog": B.O.T. is a robot named... B.O.T.
- Balloon Belly: Just for a quick second in "Sucky Sprinkler", the titular Beastie inflates after sucking up water.
- By the Lights of Their Eyes: In various episodes when B.O.T. is in the darkness, his eyes will glow due to him being a robot.
- Cute, but Cacophonic: The Squiggling Tooter, Galloping Yelp and Fruity Tapper are examples of these.
- Comically Missing the Point: Various episodes show B.O.T. struggling with his job and he misses the point that he's tracking their data.
- Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: Every Beastie after their episode.
- Crying Critters: In the episode "Fluffy Trembler", the titular Beastie wails with visible tears after losing their fluff. It happens again in "Giggling Gurgle" when Giggling Gurgle is easily upset. It wasn't long before "Sweepy Swish" and when Sweepy Swish bawls yet again with visible tears due to having untidy fur thanks to B.O.T. squirming out of his fur in multiple ways. "Happy-Sad Klomp" shows the titular beastie sobbing about the rain interrupting his dance.
- Every Episode Ending: "All data collected for *insert beastie*, Mission complete!"
- Fun with Acronyms: B.O.T.'s name stands for Beastie Observation Transmitter, which highly tells us he observes and transmits beastie data.
- Furry Reminder: Sometimes a beastie will make various animal sounds like squeaking, barking and cooing. However these are only the realistic animal sounds they'll make. Sometimes beasties also sniff things, dig or behave in an animal-like manner.
- Mama Wolf: After being crushed into on her rear area, mother Huggy Roller starts to shout at B.O.T. and run after them. Some viewers may think she'll be protecting her young.
- Meaningful Name: B.O.T. is a robot and what his name stands for indicates that he observes beasties and transmits the beasties data. The beasties also have names that describe themselves.
- Title Theme Tune: One of the lyrics in the small theme song is "B.O.T. and the Beasties!"
