Angels of Death: Origins is a CGI animated show for Warhammer+. It is set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. The show is a prequel series that centers on the characters of Angels of Death (2021) before the events of the first season.

The show provides examples of the following tropes:

    Kill Command

  • Bittersweet Ending: Against all odds, Livia manages to triumph against the Drukhari, but at great cost, as the void battle ends with nearly the entire crew of the Sword of Baal dead.
  • Downer Beginning: The episode begins with the Sword of Baal severely damaged, nearly the entire crew of the bridge dead and at the mercy of Drukhari raiders.
  • Klingon Promotion: With Captain Faber dead, Livia assumes command of the Sword of Baal. The Master of Ordnance protests, stating that as a senior officer who has served for two decades, they should retreat and find safe harbor. Livia, who wants to stand her ground and fight the Drukhari, shoots him when he continues to protest.
  • Licking the Blade: The Drukhari lord Vorl does this during his introduction.
  • Oh, Crap!: The Drukhari raiders reactions when the Sword of Baal, whom they thought utterly defenseless, fires it's broadside cannons at them.
  • One Last Smoke: Slev smokes a lho-stick as he's helping pull a missile onto the ship's cannon, because he knows that it'll be his last.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: When Lord Vorl orders his ship to board the Sword of Baal and commence in slaughter, where every 2 out of 3 of the human crew will be killed, he is questioned that such action will leave them with fewer slaves for their quota. Vorl scoffs that their cabal will just have to make due with whatever slaves they'll get.
  • Sadist: The Drukhari as a whole are this as part of their culture. Lord Vorl deliberately holds off from boarding the Sword of Baal until the humans send out a distress signal, likely to revel in the pleasure of denying them any hope of rescue.
  • We Will Use Manual Labor in the Future: In line with the Imperium's stagnated technology, thousands of Chapter Serfs are used to manually load the ship's bombardment macrocannons.

    Patience of Iron

  • Great Escape: Sergeant Vescaro pleads with Magos Castia to aid him in an escape plan, claiming that with her Battle Servitors, they can fight their way to the Orbital Spire and commandeer a ship to escape the planet. Magos Castia declines, explaining that she has a mission to secure an ancient technological artifact, and even if she wanted to, she estimates that any such escape attempt will be suicide as the enemy forces are too many for them to overcome.
  • Mercy Kill: Castia-Theta-9 has her Kataphron Battle Servitor kill Vescaro's commanding officer, under the logic that he was severely wounded and on the brink of death.
  • Reforged into a Minion: By The end of the episode, Magos Castia has transformed Sergeant Vescaro (and likely the other humans under her care) into servitors.

    In the Company of Death

  • Blood-Splattered Warrior: By the end of the episode, both Kazarion and Rafael's powered armored is soaked in blood and grime.
  • The Faceless: Subverted with Chaplain Rafael. In the original series, he never took off his helmet. In this episode, we see his face from the beginning and end and he is shown to have an elderly appearance.
  • Handicapped Badass: Chaplain Rafael has one of his hearts critically damaged after surviving an ambush from the Death Guard. Although he can still stand and fight, his injury has hindered his combat ability.
  • Kill It with Fire: When they are surrounded by Poxwalkers, Rafael opens a pipe that fills the room they are in with Promethium. When they are at a safe distance, Rafael fires his bolt pistol that engulfs the room, and the Poxwalkers, in fire.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: After killing two of the Death Guard, Kazarion, who begins suffering from the effects from the Black Rage, continues slashing one of the bodies until Rafael calms him down.
