A Love Story is a 2016 animated short film that tells the story of how Ivan fell in love with Evie, and how it evolves into a rivalry into their adulthood.

It was released by the Chipotle Mexican Grill and featured on Fiz. The film was produced by Blake Mills.

The song, "I Want It That Way", is performed by Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes and Jim James of My Morning Jacket.

Tropes:

  • Babies Ever After: The end of the short shows that Ivan and Evie have a child together.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: The rivalry and romance between Ivan and Evie.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Downplayed. While Ivan and Evie knew each other since they were children, they were more like rivals than friends, and start their romantic relationship as adults.
  • From Stray to Pet: The stray dog that is seen with Ivan in the beginning becomes the family pet of the former's family with Evie.
  • Hairstyle Inertia: Both Ivan and Evie kept their respective hairstyles they had as children.
  • A Minor Kidroduction: The first minute or show sees Ivan and Evie as children.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Downplayed. No one dies, but Ivan never meant to start a rivalry with Evie, only to earn enough money to take her to a movie. However, Evie misinterpreted his actions and saw him as competition.
  • Rags to Riches: Downplayed. Neither child appeared to be in poor status but created and owned their own wealthy businesses.
  • Silence Is Golden: Zigzagged. While the song "I Want It That Way" is played throughout the short, there's no audible dialogue between the two main characters.
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Implied. Ivan was already shown to like Evie when they were kids and both of them appeared to only be interested in each other, albeit in a rivalry sense. However, when they began intertwining hands after being kicked out of their respective businesses implies that they always liked each other.
