Reductress is an American satire website founded by comedians Beth Newell and Sarah Pappalardo in 2013. It makes fun of media targeted towards women by posting parody articles about women's issues, news, mundane situations encountered by women, dating, and feminism in manners akin to that of a women's magazine (e.g. listicles, advice columns, confessionals). They're known for their highly specific headlines.
Tropes:
- Beautiful Tears: Parodied by "Woman Only Beautiful When She's Crying", where a woman is only considered good-looking when she's in tears.
- Fake Orgasm: Inverted in the article "How to Fake Not Having an Orgasm To Keep Him Humble", which advises women to lie that they didn't finish to prevent their partners from having inflated egos.
- Gold Digger: Exploited in "Tips for Subtly Teaching Your Daughter How To Marry Rich".Just because you ignored your company’s 401k enrollment for the last eight years doesn’t mean you have to grow old and poor. Remember: having a daughter who marries a social worker can happen to anyone. We all need to chip in to ensure our comfortable future, so start building your investment now.
- High Heel Hurt: The gag in "Little Black Dresses to Match Your Blood-Filled Stilettos" is that a well-fitting Little Black Dress hides just how much your feet are bleeding from your killer heels.
- I Want Grandkids: Parodied in the 'article' "I Finally Gave My Mom Grandkids and Now I’m Wanted for Kidnapping", where a woman responds to repeated grandchild requests by felony kidnapping."Ultimately, I’ve learned so much from this experience. First and foremost, you can never make everyone happy. Kidnapping children so that my mom could have grandkids may have made my mom happy, but it made the state authorities of Virginia very angry, and also it didn’t make my mom happy. But was this troublous journey rewarding in the end? Of course not."
- Longest Pregnancy Ever:
- Jennifer Aniston Enters Thirteenth Trimester of Pregnancy is exactly what it says on the tin.
- Hometown Friend Somehow Still Pregnant focuses on Deena Lorento's high school friend Janet, who's been pregnant for almost five years.
- Retail Therapy: "Retail Therapy Cheaper than Actual Therapy", where a woman, due to the high cost of healthcare, realizes that shopping gives her the same happiness at lower cost.
- Totem Pole Trench: This satirical article, in which a woman unlucky in love can't seem to stop dating immature men who each turn out to be two kids in a trenchcoat. (But she's got high hopes for her new guy, and really respects his commitment to recovering from alcoholism indicated by his unwillingness to meet her at a bar.)
