Research, Protection, Containment.

The RPC Authority is a collaborative wiki that focuses on documents, reports, and scientific research on various anomalous entities, objects, areas, events, etc. RPC stands for Research, Protection, Containment. The RPC Authority's goal is to capture and research (emphasis on research, hence the title) anomalies to protect the Earth and the rest of the universe and use their research to benefit civilization as a whole. However, the RPC Authority is willing to commit questionable actions to preserve the safety of civilization and the secrecy of the anomalies. To make matters worse, the anomalies are not the only things that the Authority deals with because they also face more dangerous Groups of Interest, like The Church of Malthus, the German Anomalous Research Division, The PCAAO, and UNAAC.

Also see its Spiritual Predecessor, the SCP Foundation.

The RPC Authority contains the following tropes:

  • Abstract Scale: The RPC Authority has what is known as an Anderson Coherency Scale, which is used to measure the levels of coherency of reality, which is very useful for the Authority since it regularly has to battle against Reality Warpers.
  • Alien Geometry: The Anderson Coherency Scale measures how 'stable' the Authority would define pocket dimensions to alternate realities. Many can appear dreamlike, or even nightmarish.
  • Alternate Universe:
    • The RCPA Reality is a universe where the Authority became a world-ruling organization known as the Righteous Centralized Protection Authority.
    • The Remnants Timeline is a universe where a calamity generated many new anomalies and destroyed civilization on Earth.
    • The Cosmic Embers is a universe where humanity was forced to move from star to star after Earth was destroyed. This one is notable for being a whole Alternate Continuity.
  • Animalistic Abomination: RPC-197, a sapient Savage Wolf with regeneration and Super-Strength who literally hides and travels through the shadows. Whenever it speaks, its voice is heard as warped and distorted. It also claims to be Fenrir from Norse Mythology.
  • Ancient Conspiracy: The Authority is an Ancient Artifact collection agency dating all the way back to the 1500s.
  • Ancient Order of Protectors: A monastery on the slopes of smoke-belching Mount Vesuvius was called upon for help to contain the anomalous remnants of the Renaissance era since 1514.
  • Anomalous Art:
    • The Academy of True Art (a.k.a L'Academia Della Vera Arte) is an academy that employs anomalies in its teachings of art, everything from visual to auditory the AOTA has you covered. Unless you try and kill someone that is, more common than you think.
    • Leonardo Da Vinci is also an anomalous artist in a classic case of Beethoven Was an Alien Spy
  • Anti-Hero: The RPC Authority is an organizational version of this trope. They're willing to sacrifice prisoners called CSD's (the RPC equivalent to the SCP's D-personnel) and sometimes animals for either containing or experimenting with the anomalies in order to protect civilian lives.
  • Apocalypse How: The Remnant is an alternate universe in which a universe-wide calamity (named the Alpha trigger) occurred, generating massive amounts of new anomalies and destroying organized civilization on Earth. Some of the events include Africa becoming a hellscape and Australia being infested with giant animals.
  • Apocalyptic Log: RPC-429 follows a group of people posting on a paranormal-focused online forum, as one posts about his hunt for RPC-429 and ends up stumbling on an underground facility being run by one of the Authority's Groups of Interest. The ending reveals everyone involved on the forum had disappeared before the Authority could track them down.
  • Area 51: The official story of Groom Lake being a secret aircraft testing site is actually a coverup for Site-002, one of the Authority's largest containment sites.
  • Asian Fox Spirit: RPC-886 happens to be a peaceful, if understandably depressed, shapeshifting Japanese red fox (kitsune) which ironically has white fur and seven tails. She is also the Last of Her Kind.
  • Beethoven Was an Alien Spy: Leonardo Da Vinci was an anomalous artist; most of his anomalous work was confiscated by the Auctoritas Impertus.
  • Benevolent A.I.: One minor GOI, the Array, is made up of AI's that have banded together to defend humanity and who have helped the Authority on several occasions.
  • Big Bad: The entity behind RPC-840 is the closest thing to one, with its extermination of the Venusian species being the indirect cause of humanity's existence and the entity itself possibly becoming a threat to humans as well if they ever were to become too advanced.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Many, such as RPC-730 mutated witchetty grubs 4cm long with spider-like legs and large fangs.
  • Black-and-Gray Morality: Just like its invokedSpiritual Predecessor, the RPC Authority will get their hands dirty in order to protect the universe from actively malevolent Eldritch Abominations and Groups-Of-Interest, like the German Anomalous and Research Division.
  • Black Helicopter: RPC-666 happens to be a Mi-24 (NATO "Hind-A") helicopter gunship, except it's also a Mechanical Abomination with the ability to weaponize the weather.
  • Body Horror: Oh so much! A wonderful example is RPC-510, an anomalous virus that turns people into miniature (relatively speaking) planets, or the aforementioned RPC-730 where its larva infect its human host and transforms them into green, 4-legged, bear-sized bug-like monsters that can claw through metal and viciously eat anything alive.
  • Canon Immigrant:
  • Cosmic Horror Story: The RPC universe is somewhere between this and Lovecraft Lite. It's bloated with Eldritch Abominations and while some are too powerful to be contained, many of them can also be contained with reasonable efforts.
  • Crossover Cosmology: In the RPC-verse, most if not all Mythology is true in their own regard with certain deviations from the original mythological canons. With Roman gods walking the earth to the great wolf Fenrir chained within the confines of the authority vault.
  • Duty That Transcends Death: RPC-049 is the ghost of former Site-002 Human Resources archivist Janet Neuman, who continues to do her job even after her death in 1957. She has been nominated for the Site-002 Employee of the Month award every month since 1957, often with significant majority votes. A permanent "Honourary Employee of the Month" plaque has been dedicated to her since 1962.
  • Eldritch Location: RPC-313 is a vast empty space that contains a simulation of the universe.
  • Evil Counterpart: The Righteous Central Protection Authority is an alternate version of the Authority from another universe that actively uses anomalies to ensure its dominance over the world.
  • Evil Teacher: RPC-010 is an anomalous elementary school run by Ms. Jackson, who reads stories with disturbing themes (such as rape or murder) to her 31 students, and whenever any of them fail to meet her expectations, she horrifically tortures them and brings them back to life with an anomalous object called the "Happy Box", just so that she can repeat this depraved cycle.
  • Expy: Since the site is a invokedSpiritual Successor of the SCP Foundation supposed to take the Foundation back to its roots, it's no surprise that the titular Authority is an Expy of the Foundation working in very similar ways.
  • Good Is Not Nice: The RPC Authority is interested in protecting the world and further benefiting the public, and while many anomalies can be contained with mundane and harmless methods, most of them require questionable or even disturbing methods.
  • Grand Theft Me: RPC-134 is a species of Galápagos tortoise that, when certain phrases are spoken near it, transfers the speaker's consciousness into the tortoise, leaving their original body brain-dead. Unfortunately, tortoise brains aren't exactly capable of higher brain functions such as "sapience", so the resulting RPC-134-1 is stripped of any human intelligence.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: RPC-588 are in appearance and behavior (mostly) indistinguishable from normal bees making them difficult to locate and contain.
  • Historical In-Joke: An Incomplete History of the Authority reveals that 7 World Trade Center was actually a cover for Site-313, and it had to be blown up to avoid a containment breach.
  • Hostile Terraforming: RPC-799 is a damaged extraterrestrial terra-forming machine whose abilities will warp planet Earth's conditions to hostile conditions for its native life when left unchecked.
  • Invincible Boogeyman:
    • RPC-010-2, the Evil Teacher inhabiting her Made of Indestructium classroom, is essentially this by proxy.
    • RPC-042, a Humanoid Abomination that hunts through sound.
    • RPC-142, an immortal misogynistic killer, is this through Resurrective Immortality.
    • RPC-548, as mentioned previously, is on a collision course to Earth, and there is no current way to stop it.
    • RPC-666, also mentioned earlier, can regenerate itself.
    • RPC-906, a massive predatorial snowman, is still growing in size and becoming increasingly difficult to contain, let alone kill.
  • Science Fantasy: The RPC universe has both fantastical and sci-fi elements, ranging from supposed Gods and Mythological creatures to advanced technology and aliens.
  • The Social Darwinist: The Church of Malthus are a Type 3 of this trope; a group of Evilutionary Biologists who view humanity's technological and medicinal progress for extended life and quality of life as failures of science, so they plan to force humanity to evolve through any means, be it by culling those considered "weak" or even getting their hands on absolutely powerful and/or dangerous anomalies.
  • Sore Loser: Seems the programmer for RPC-328 is just that, a bitter man-child releasing potentially lethal apps on the internet because he was expelled from the Academy of True Arts.
A text file attached to the program of 328: [EXPLETIVE] the Academy! Hope you [EXPLETIVE] enjoy this floating around.
  • Space People: The main theme of the Cosmic Embers canon, where humanity lives in space.
  • Tank Goodness: RPC-368 is a massive yet unfinished somewhat sapient German tank made of sentient parts that get smarter when more of them are connected. The tank somehow fires slugs of magma, which is basically impossible to pull off with relatively modern technology, let alone for its time.
  • Those Wacky Nazis: The German Anomalous and Research Division is a group of interest formed during World War II based on the common stereotype that Nazis were highly invested occult research.
  • Weird Sun: RPC-548 is a malevolent sapient star that's hell-bent on crushing planet Earth, and the Authority currently has no methods to stop it. It also used to be in the SCP Foundation as SCP-1548 until its author moved it to the RPC wiki.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Again, the RPC Authority is not only protecting the Earth and its civilization, it's also using the knowledge its scientists have gained to benefit the public, although the organization is also not above doing questionable containment methods or scientific experiments.
  • Wendigo: There's apparently an entire secret US state called Appalachia where Wendigo hunting is a tourist draw.
  • The X of Y: Multiple RPCs fit this trope:
