The Second Coming Of Gluttony is an Action Fantasy Webcomic drawn by Akeo Studio, based on the web novel by Ro Yu-jin (로유진).

A distant planet in a far-off galaxy. A bloody war of survival is drawing to a close. The alien invaders have won, and the heroes of the natives have either abandoned the fighting or betrayed them for the enemy. As the chaotic fighting dies down, a lonely dying man rests amongst a sea of corpses, having fought to his last breath. As he breathes his last, he makes one last deal with the gods who summoned him to this world to fight on behalf of those who couldn't defeat their mighty foe. A chance to set things right, and perhaps, resolve his past regrets...

On Earth. Seol Jihu is a piece of human trash. Addicted to gambling, he's willing to preform any deed to exploit his family and loved ones for the chance to win big at the casinos, but instead constantly sinks deeper and deeper into his fix with every loss. After a vicious argument with his old girlfriend, she finally cuts all ties with him with a final payment, despairing that the kind-hearted boy she once loved has sunk so low. Concerned only with his next win, Seol disregards how badly he's hurt those around him with his selfish obsession...

... until he has a strange dream that night.

A dream of battle against fantastical monsters, a world of magic and untamed wonders, a world under threat from an unstoppable invader. Fighting endlessly against this inevitable foe is a spear-wielding demon, drenched in blood and ferocious in battle, unrelenting in fulfilling his duty when those around him falter against the enormity of the task, until at last he is cut down. His last act is to die alone on a gruesome battlefield, his tear-streaked face a mirror of Seol Jihu's, consumed with the regrets of his past mistakes that brought him here

Awakening, Seol is haunted by the fading dream and the feelings that it stirs inside of him. Feeling like the regrets of this figure were his own, Seol finally understands how much he's destroyed the bonds of trust and love to those who mattered most to him. Overcome, he considers ending himself to rid them of his presence, when a woman unexpectedly approaches him with money on hand and an enticing offer, to sign a contract to join 'Paradise' and receive rewards beyond his wildest imagination. Seol, seeing a scene from his dream playing out before his eyes, recognises that the horrible ending he saw is still awaiting him...

...But this time, he will choose differently.

The web novel the webcomic is based on can be read on Wuxiaworld here.

The Second Coming Of Gluttony contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Aura Vision: Seol Jihu's inborn Unique Ability, enabling him to see the world around him dyed in Nine different colours, each corresponding to a different 'direction' and associated with a particular choice or action he can take regarding it.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Invoked. The Bad Future Seol Jihu, despite preforming admirable feats, including killing Abhorrent Charity, had not earned enough favour with the seven gods to be sent back in time himself and correct all the mistakes and regrets he had about his time in Paradise and his family. Instead, with the aid of the Royal Oath, his thoughts and emotions were sent back to his past self, appearing into him as a dream about his future fate that would thereafter fade away and leave him with ghost memories of the path he was destined to walk. Though this does happen, the faint portions of events that Seol does remember, along with the intense regret he feels upon realising just how far he's fallen as a human being from his gambling addiction, is sufficient to guide him in making different choices and actions when proceeding through the tutorial, neutral zone, and then Paradise itself.
  • God Is Evil: Played With. The Parasite Queen actually defeated the chief deity of Paradise and absorbed his divinity into herself, thereafter also taking the divinity of seven virtues to split amongst her Army Commanders. Faced with this, the natives of paradise made a deal with the Seven Deadly Sins, to worship them as gods so they could use their abilities to counter the influence of the Parasite Queen, now a Physical God. This results in the normally-evil sins being considered 'good' and the virtues being seen as evil, so it's more 'god became evil, and the sins had to take his position'.
