The Makeup Remover is a Korean Webtoon by Lee Yone. It was released in English from September 21, 2020 to February 24, 2022.

Growing up, Yeseul Kim was told to focus on her studies rather than her face. Now a college student, she remains homely despite the promises that she'd become more attractive at that age. After a Makeover Fail, she runs into the famous makeup artist Yuseong Cheon, who is looking for a particular type of model for the Face Off Cinderella competition. He gives her a professional makeover so she can have her revenge on the person who botched her makeover, and he asks her to be his model as payment. Throughout the competition, they challenge beauty standards and stereotypes from all sorts of angles.

The Makeup Remover contains examples of:

  • Adults Dressed as Children: Thirty-something Yeri Choi dresses up as a teenager to represent the meaning of idols.
  • Age-Gap Romance: Siheyon Min is in love with his makeup artist, Wooyun Seon, who is 12 years his senior. She initially turns him down because she's being blackmailed and says it would reflect badly on her if they started dating. After they are eliminated, they work together on a UTube channel and initially deny rumors that they are dating. They become official in the epilogue; Sihyeon admits that it's difficult to put his feelings aside, but Wooyun is under the impression that they are dating because a sponsor gave them couple rings.
  • Age-Inappropriate Dress: Eleven-year-old Mimi Jang wears a short-hemmed halter dress and does a sexy dance as part of the idol challenge. To those who aren't making lecherous comments about her, it's very uncomfortable to watch.
  • Artistic Age: Wooyun Seon is only 37, but the lines on her face make her look older.
  • Cosmetic Catastrophe: Eunha and Mimi's concept for "teenagers" involves them doing a deliberately bad job at makeup to evoke the experience of a girl's first attempt at makeup. This serves as a reminder that Mimi is only eleven and shouldn't be expected to behave like an adult.
  • Covers Always Lie: The cover art implies a romance between Yeseul and Yuseong, but that romance is a background element and is left up in the air at the end. Furthermore, the Cinderella-style ballgown is far from anything Yeseul actually wears.
  • Gaslighting: Seungwoo tries to shatter Yeseul's confidence and manipulate her into dropping out of Face Off Cinderella so she would stop stealing his attention.
  • Important Haircut: For the first challenge, Yeseul cuts her hair with a fruit knife to make a striking image. Heewon cuts her hair much later on.
  • Makeover Fail: At the beginning of the story, Yeseul goes for a makeover to look like Heewon Ju. However, the makeup artist doesn't accommodate her natural appearance and tells her she's not pretty enough to look like Heewon.
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Sera Myeong has short hair and looks like a man, while her twin brother Eungyeol has longer hair and a more feminine face.
  • Not My Driver: Yeseul rides a taxi while she's dressed up nicely, but the taxi driver drives in the wrong direction and claims to know the area better than her. In other words, it's a thinly-veiled kidnapping.
  • Older Than They Look: Yeri Choi is in her thirties but looks so youthful that she can take on the appearance of a teenage idol.
  • Quiet Cry for Help: Yeseul calls Yuseong while she's being kidnapped by a taxi driver. She can't state her situation outright, so Yuseong tells her to cough twice if she's in danger.
  • Rejected Apology: Seungwoo tries to apologize to Yeseul to save face, but she recognizes his motives and refuses to forgive him.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Because of Yeseul's plain looks, Yuseong can transform her into anything with the right makeup and costume.
  • Slipping a Mickey: One guy injects a drug into the moisture of an unopened soda can and gives it to Heewon. Yeseul witnesses the act and warns Heewon, who is able to verify it with special nail polish.
  • Stealing the Credit: Seungwoo takes Yeseul's photo of him and passes it off as his own.
  • Tribal Face Paint: Yeseul's first look has her face and shoulders covered in patterns of lipstick to go with her scar.
  • Visual Title Drop: The product that Heewon and Yeseul use at the end of the competition is Cinderella cleansing wipes, the makeup remover.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser:
    • Twins Sera and Eungyeol Myeong dress up as the opposite gender to make people wonder which one's the man and which one's the woman.
    • Siheyon wears a wedding dress for his role in Yeseul's challenge.
  • Would Hit a Girl: The guy who tried to drug Heewon hits Yeseul hard enough to scratch her face.
