What happens when a magical girl team needs to fight off the invading alien hordes, but they're not ready?

Samhita Raju has been seeing a particular unicursal hexagram in her dreams since childhood, but never thought anything of it until a giant blue hologram of it appeared hanging in the sky over downtown Columbus, Ohio, one day. And it's counting down to something. It's determined that the hologram, and the device projecting it, are alien in origin, but no one is quite sure what's going to happen until the countdown day arrives.

The Hues is a webcomic by Alex Heberling, creator of Garanos, which started on January 18, 2013.

This comic provides examples of:

  • Ambiguously Bi: Audrey makes an ambiguous hand gesture when Lauren asks if anyone isn't just a little gay (with Salime being the only one to explicitly deny it) and is show in a suit jacket and bowtie on her profile image. So far the jury's out.
  • Art Evolution: Originally the comic had a similar inking style like Heberling's previous comic, Garanos, but after chapter 4 switches to a more standard black outline. This is visible in the comic's banner where Andy, Hannah and Sami are drawn in the first style while Lauren, Salime and Audrey are drawn in the new style.
  • Cast of Snowflakes: All of the girls have unique body types and facial structures,
  • Catastrophic Countdown: It's just a countdown until the aliens actually do something. What they do is attack.
  • Cell Phones Are Useless: After the aliens attack they are...at least when Lauren's not around.
  • Changed My Mind, Kid: Shortly after their first meeting, Hannah walks away, but not long afterwards she shows up again to fight off an alien threatening Sami and Andy.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience
    • Sami: Pink
    • Andy: Yellow
    • Hannah: Red
    • Lauren: Black
    • Salime: Green
    • Audrey: Blue
  • Compelling Voice: Andy's powerset...at least in part. She is Genre Savvy enough to refer to it as her Jedi Mind Trick in-story.
  • Gayngst: Hannah the firestarter comes out to a gay couple who are among the first groups of survivors we meet, explaining that her family didn't handle it well when she told them. She comes out to the whole group later.
  • Foreshadowing: Hannah is about to join up with Sami and Andy, until she realizes Andy's a telepath. That's enough to make her decide not to. She comes back, but the telpath staying out of her head is the condition for her to do so. Later on, we find out why: Hannah's gay and when she came out to her family, it was ugly, making her fearful of letting anyone else know..
  • HeroicSacrifice: Saki, the airman Lauren met, jumps in front of a shot to protect her.
  • Ice Magic Is Water: What we have seen of Audrey's powers so far.
  • Missing Mom: Sami's mother is still alive despite what happened to the hospital she was working in.
  • Limited Wardrobe: Justified by the fact that they're living in a destroyed part of Ohio with no access to modern conveniences. Hannah seems particularly attached to her Red Star t-shirt, though.
  • Playing with Fire: Hannah's powers.
  • Shock and Awe: Lauren's powerset.
  • Technopath: Lauren can repair an EMP affected I-phone. Later she learns to control alien weapons.
  • Translation Convention: Absent until Andy realizes she can understand the aliens psychically.
