The Dwarfs, the Spirit and the Sorceress is a Fan Webcomic published on DeviantArt by user SnowStoat based on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Long ago, a benevolent sorceress sealed the evil spirit Zoso, worshipped by the evil Goblins, in a rock that she buried deep under a mountain. Then, we cut to 1000 years later, when the Dwarfs of the Disney movie happen to have dug their mine under the mountain where Zoso's rock was hidden. What had to happen happens: the Dwarfs accidentally release Zoso, who puts an awful curse on Awful the Dwarf, a pessimistic and self-esteem-less dwarf that the main seven where hiring at the mine. Doc finds in one of his books that the evil spirit can only be vanquished by the Sorceress, and only the Goblins know where the sorceress is. With help from two more dwarfs, the dwarfgirls Sneaky and Posey, they go on a quest to find the sorceress. On occasion for Awful to learn to value himself, and admit his feelings for Posey…
The Dwarfs, the Spirit and the Sorceress provides examples of:
- Big Bad: Zoso the Evil Spirit, who puts a curse on one of the dwarfs.
- Cutesy Dwarf: It being a Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs story, what did you expect ? Posey the Dwarfgirl is especially childlike, though.
- Darker and Edgier: It's not exactly a reimagining, but the story definitely includes some bits that Disney would never allow in an official comic, such as:
- One of the dwarfs (one of the Original Characters but still) drinking alcohol.
- Frequent using of the word "drunk".
- The same dwarf bleeding after having been harmed.
- Dug Too Deep: Happens to the Seven Dwarfs who accidentally break Zoso the Evil Spirit's rock-shaped prison while digging in their mine.
- Our Goblins Are Different: Pretty average on the design, the goblins of the comics have however two distinguishing features: a cartoony crooked nose and hair. They live in caves near the Dwarfs's forest that can be open only if one knows the riddle-password, and worship an evil spirit known as Zoso.
- Sealed Evil in a Can: Zoso the Evil Spirit is initially trapped inside a big rock that the dwarfs accidentally open while digging in their mine. He is later sealed again, this time in a magical necklace.
