Sydney’s Pokémon Adventure is an Pokémon Alternate Universe fan-comic about a happy-go-lucky and ever-barefoot tomboy named Sydney. When she turned 14 she leaves her brother Lachlan's home in Pallet Town with her partner pokemon a pikachu named Watson, to travel around the world to become a Pokemon Trainer. The comic was created by Chelsea A. Bruno "Lil Bruno" and can be found here.

Trope examples:

  • A Birthday, Not a Break: Sydney doesn't like the subject of her birthday, because during one, she snuck off and tried to start a Pokémon journey before she was ten, and befriended a Wooper that she named Bluebell, which a Team Rocket grunt later attacked for annoying him by having his Exeggutor hit it with a Leaf Storm that ultimately killed the poor Wooper. Afterward, Lachlan decided to nudge Sydney's birthday celebration out by a week so all her future "birthdays" wouldn't coincide with Bluebell's death.
  • Amicable Exes: Heavily implied to be the case with Noah's mother and father, who, despite no longer living together, occasionally have flings of romance- one of which sired Noah's baby brother Mateo.
  • Cool Big Bro: Lachlan is seen as this with his younger sister Sydney, who doesn’t even know how famous he is.
  • Disc-One Nuke: Non-video game example, yet invoked. Sydney catches a Gengar in the wild (which is impossible in the Pokémon games set in Kanto) before reaching Pewter City (where all Pokémon up to this point would have been not fully evolved and very low-level), and before she even faces her first Kanto gym leader, Brock. When she uses Gengar in the Pewter Gym battle, Brock lampshades how a trainer has somehow managed to get a rare and strong Pokémon so early into their journey, and how it's happened more than once (reflecting the way some players will try to cheat the difficulty curve by trading with other trainers to get mighty Pokémon - some of which, like Gengar, evolved when exchanged - very quickly, and are only thwarted from making the most out of them by being sandbagged by the badge obedience system).
  • Parental Neglect: Sydney has a strained relationship with her parents for their emotional neglect towards her when she was younger, leading to her being raised by her older brother.
  • Parental Substitute: Lachlan became this when raising Sydney, as Sydney had a very traumatic experience in her home region of Johto when she first tried to become a Pokémon trainer prematurely that led to her going to live with Lachlan in Kanto.
  • Plucky Girl: Sydney is a loyal, optimistic and hardworking girl.
  • Prefers Going Barefoot: Sydney has never worn shoes because she's spent nearly all of her young life at home and never needed to. As a very young child, she would wear shoes and socks, but switched to bare feet when she got older, presumably to emulate her lazy brother who is also always barefoot. She happily embarked on her journey while remaining barefoot, because it's simply just what she's used to and the most comfortable in. She eventually gets forced into a pair of shoes against her will — a rich girl gave her and her friend Neison tickets for the S.S. Anne as thanks for helping her out, but insisted on giving Sydney a full makeover once aboard, declaring that it would be much too embarrassing for someone of her social status to be seen associating with someone dressed like that. Sydney immediately changes out of the outfit after leaving the ship, though.
  • Ship Tease: There are some moments between Noah and Sydney.
  • Shipper on Deck: Noah’s mother is this regarding her son and Sydney.
