Webcomic / Smite

Go To

Based on the MOBA game with the same name, Smite is a webcomic created by Zennore and chronicles a certain Bad Future within the Battlefield of the Gods, and Neith, seeing her teammates more often bicker with each other, decided to take the matters at hand and gather forth a new set of teammates from various Pantheons and hopes to avoid this bloody future. Of course, things aren't easy when there is a team led by Loki, dedicated to just to kill all Gods within the Pantheon for lulz, as well as some Gods who are in their original intentions to subjugate everything (Zeus) standing opposed to Neith and her new team's idea. Oddly enough, Neith's main brigade consist of Goddesses, mostly.

The story is separated into so far 7 Chapters:

  • Chapter 1: Teamwork
  • Chapter 2: Problems
  • Chapter 3: Additional Teammates (Part 1)
  • Chapter 4: Additional Teammates (Part 2)
  • Chapter 5: Monster
  • Chapter 6: Change
  • Chapter 7: Confession

Mostly Gods were placed in the same Pantheon, but there exists three teams that has mixed up members:

  • Main Team: Neith, Freya, Hel, Aphrodite, Athena, Isis
  • 'Shadow' Team: Nemesis, Nu Wa, Guan Yu, Thanatos, Xbalanque
  • Team Loki: Loki, Fenrir, Scylla

This comic is ongoing and can be accessed in either Zennore's Deviantart or Tumblr.

Please only list tropes relevant to the webcomic portrayals. Normal, general things should be listed in the main Smite page.

This webcomic provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Heroism: Thanatos. He's usually one of the more malevolent dark Gods that Hates Everyone Equally and would feel more home in Team Loki to kill everyone. Here, he's a loyal member of the Shadow Team, and that team is aiding Neith. Of course, he hasn't said a thing yet.
  • Adult Fear: Poor Aphrodite after witnessing the slaughter of the Roman Pantheon. Seeing the corpses of her Son, Eros/Cupid and her Husband, Hephaestus/Vulcan. Not. A. Pretty. Sight.
  • Big Damn Heroes: How the 'Shadow' Team make their debut.
  • Big Good: Neith, referred as 'Ananke'. Though she is in communication with, or possibly subordinate to, Chronos. Janus too, possibly.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Scylla, befitting her personality, eventually bullies the hell out of Hel. She ended up as you can expect.
  • Childhood Friends: Flashbacks show that Freya and Hel are such. Young Thor also makes an occasional cameo as the... Jerk Jock?
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: So far, only the Hindu deities haven't made an appearance in this webcomic.
  • Cool Uncle: Say hi to Uncle Xbal!
  • Dropped a Bridge on Him: Everyone before Janus in the Roman Pantheon (Bacchus, Cupid, Hercules, Mercury, Vulcan) was killed off brutally by Hel's dark side and the first time we saw them, it was on the finishing touch.
  • Faceā€“Heel Turn: In an alternate timeline and the Bad Future, Athena turned out to be The Mole for Loki and eventually led to a war that causes great casualties on all Pantheons. Current timeline Athena hasn't fallen to such state, and Neith, knowing what will happen, is trying to prevent that.
  • Gutted Like a Fish: Hel did this to Neith. She got better.
  • Killed Off for Real: Aside of the aforementioned Roman Pantheon, later in the comics, Scylla also gets killed off by Hel
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: Neith really has her hands full stopping the other five arguing amongst themselves.
  • Team Mom: Neith aka Ananke
  • The Stoic: Athena is mostly very stoic and serious like the original myth, quite unlike her rather 'ditzy' personality in Smite.
  • The Voiceless: While Chang'e hasn't made any appearance, Aphrodite was rendered into such when Fenrir slashed her throat. She got better.
  • Yandere: Neith tends to bring this out in a lot of people.
