Reunion is a romance webcomic written and drawn by stephattyy. It began as an Instagram comic before moving to Webtoon Canvas in 2021, then finally to Webtoon Originals
on March 17, 2022.
Rhea is a young woman who has recently moved back into the city she grew up in. She serendipitously reunites with her childhood friend, Shiro, and is delighted to restart their friendship. However, the city is dangerous, and Shiro has some secrets of his own.
The webcomic ended after 26 issues in August 2022. The artist has specified it will lead into a larger main story.
Tropes:
- Back-to-Back Poster: One of the promotional images used for the comic has the blonde, cheerful Rhea standing back-to-back with the brooding, dark-haired Shiro. Fittingly, Rhea's background is a sunrise, while Shiro's background is nighttime.
- Bland-Name Product: In the 14th chapter, Shiro falls asleep while watching Nightflix.
- Bromantic Foil: Bas, an old friend of Shiro and Rhea who's now Shiro's roommate and best friend. He is perkier and friendlier than the brooding, mysterious romantic lead Shiro.
- Crash-Into Hello: Rhea reunites with Shiro by bumping into him as she runs away from some harassers.
- The Dreaded: Shiro is feared by the thugs who roam the city. The two men who were harassing Rhea start trembling in fear when they realize who he is.
- Eye Cam: Episode 10 begins with Bas's fuzzy face in an eye-shaped frame. Then Shiro awakens and Bas's face is shown more clearly.
- Fanservice: Rhea has a few moments, in the first two episodes in a red tube top for example.
- Fallen-on-Hard-Times Job: In the first issue, Rhea laments that she hasn't yet found a proper job at a company, and she is later seen working at a gelato store to make ends meet.
- Head-Turning Beauty:
- Rhea overhears comments about Shiro's good looks while they're at the diner together.
- Rhea's coworker notices that Rhea seems to attract customers to their store, and said customers are drawn with heart-eyes as Rhea serves them gelato.
- Her Boyfriend's Jacket: In Episode 2, Shiro offers Rhea his jacket while blushing after he agrees to have a drink with her.
- Mistaken for Cheating: In the eleventh chapter, Kori's vitriol towards Rhea is revealed to be because she thought Shiro was withdrawing from her in the last months of their relationship. She assumed Shiro was cheating, and upon seeing him buddy-buddy with Rhea, assumed Rhea was the other woman. Rhea defiantly clarifies that she had just recently reconnected with Shiro.
- She Is All Grown Up: In the second chapter, reunited childhood friends Shiro and Rhea both positively comment that the other looks so different from how they looked as kids. Bas later relates that Shiro had told him Rhea was "cute now".
- She Is Not My Girlfriend: Rhea and Shiro are obviously attracted to each other from the jump, but both panic when a diner owner assumes they are dating.Rhea: It's not like that!
Diner owner: That's what they all say... - Sleep Cute: Episode 9 ends with Rhea having fallen asleep on Shiro in the middle of their reminiscing. Both parties are fully clothed and Shiro's jacket is draped over her. The warm lighting makes it clear it's a tender, romantic moment.
- Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Shiro is tall, dark-haired, brown-skinned, and brooding and mysterious. He's also considered good-looking in-universe, with random girls commenting on his attractiveness. Rhea wonders if his mysteriousness draws women to him.
- That Came Out Wrong:
- Rhea asks Shiro what his favorite place in the city is. Given he's something of a loner, he bluntly replies "my bedroom", before his eyes widen and he clarifies he isn't propositioning Rhea.
- Rhea tries to prod Shiro into revealing what his job is. He tells her that he works the night shift at the Family Business. Rhea teasingly asks if he's a stripper, then in an effort to be supportive adds that she'd totally hire him. She then realizes what she'd just said and backtracks.
