Webcomic / Parisa

Go To

Parisa is an all-ages fantasy webcomic. Starting in 2014, the comic focuses on Nolan and Gwen, two best friends. After discovering a small ghost-like Spirasi named Leleif, the two of them go on an adventure to try to help them. Along the way, they make friends and discover more Spirasi.

This webcomic provides examples of the following tropes:

  • Absurd Phobia: Jiro is afraid of revolving doors, which proves to be a problem when he tries entering the wrestling stadium.
  • The Bus Came Back: After Nolan and Gwen send the Hand Turkey all the way into outer space in Chapter 2, it returns in Chapter 5 by crashing into the wrestling stadium and demanding to be the next fighter.
  • Cats Are Snarkers: Loreli is a cat-like Parisi. She is rather sarcastic, to the point of cutting off lengthy explanations by spouting laconics just before Chapter 4.
  • Height Angst: Julian doesn't like it when others point out his short stature.
  • Kid Hero: Nolan's only ten years old, and Gwen's implied to be around his age, and yet they manage to save the day on multiple occasions.
  • Least Rhymable Word: When Luciano Jones and Dr. Wyrm list the things their minions misplaced in rhyme, they get stuck at the word "orange".
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: The Spirasi are genderless, shapeshifting spirits who bond with the Parisi through pacts. They're usually named after the places where they were found.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Gwen may be a little girl, but she's shown to pack a punch on several occasions.
  • Raised by Grandparents: Gwen is raised by her Nana Dalal, who's overprotective of her. Her parents are nowhere to be seen.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses:
    • Julian is a nurse, and is by far the smartest member of the main group during the earlier chapters. He is constantly sporting a pair of glasses.
    • Dr. Wyrm also wears glasses whenever he's seen. He delivers the exposition about the world's magic system just before Chapter 5.
    • Constantine is a librarian, and helps deliver some exposition before Chapter 6. One of his most defining features is his pair of rectangle-lensed glasses.
  • Shout-Out:
  • World of Action Girls: Between Gwen being as much of a fighter as Nolan, Jessie being the strongest of the trio that was met in Chapter 3, and even Gwen's Nana Dalal being implied to have been a fighter in the past, there are very few non-action girls.
  • World of Funny Animals: The residents of Parisa are anthropomorphic animals and monsters called Parisi.
  • Wholesome Crossdresser: In the first chapter, Nolan wears a dress belonging to Gwen. Despite Gwen not liking the dress, Nolan enjoys wearing it.
