Connor and Bridget...or their clones.

Welcome to the town of Nonesuch. The rules are simple: You can not escape unless you leave with the person you came in with, but as Connor and Bridget discover, finding your partner is not so easy when there are dozens of copies of them wandering the old western grounds of Nonesuch… Itching to become more and more like their hosts- questioning them and stalking them to learn more about who they are. Connor and Bridget may know each other, but they’re about to learn just how little they know about themselves.

Created by Bitsy Comics, Nonesuch is a supernatural mystery story that deals with fear, self-loathing, anxiety, and guilt through the main characters facing copies of themselves that slowly come to represent all the things they dislike about themselves. And while learning more about themselves, they also have to beware the clones as they become more and more vicious as the pair spend more time near them.

It's available to read on Webtoons here and will be released as a physical comic once the story is completed on Webtoons, available through their personal website here.

Provides examples of:

  • Action Girl: Bridget manages to alternately play this straight and subvert this depending on the situation.
  • Anger Born of Worry: After Connor gets thrown in the pool by Bridget's brothers, while she's understandably angry at her brothers, she's also angry at Connor for not having tried to explain to them about not being able to swim out of shame.
  • As the Good Book Says...: Shannon's clone is often quoting from the Bible as a form of judgment against others for their "sins". This comes from Shannon having been exactly like this when she was younger, but she has since grown out of this after she and her mom were left stuck in Nonesuch.
  • Badass Boast: During Bridget's second [1], she makes one that is both self-deprecating and badass as she insults the clones for being so easily killed by her.
Bridget: I guess if you break it all down...that is kinda just what I am. ...A scrap of meat. But you know what? That means a scrap of meat took ALL OF YOU OUT- OVER- AND OVER- AND OVER- AND OVER- SO WHAT DOES THAT MAKE YOU ALL!?
  • Bound and Gagged: Happens numerous times, mostly to Bridget but later Connor gets shackled to a post. This seems to be the clones favorite way to ensure their prey can't get away and allow them to feed more easily.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Connor's clones accuse him of this, specifically for Bridget, and deconstruct it by pointing out how his belief that he's useless to her means he has to prove his usefulness in order to deserve being married to her. They eventually exploit this by whispering something to her that terrifies her before putting a knife to her throat to make Connor believe they threatened to kill her if he doesn't tell them something they can exploit to feed off his fear.
  • Claustrophobia: Bridget suffers from this and it is consistently exploited by others, from the clones to even Connor when he's in a state of panic. Later on Connor's clones later exploit her fear by whispering to her that they'd throw her in a coffin and bury her alive if he told them his fear...specifically to scare her so much that Connor would believe she were in danger if he didn't tell them his fear.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Bridget briefly enters a very aggressive one after she comes to believe that Connor is truly dead (he's not). Her anger and self-hatred, ironically, end up acting as a sort of defense against the clones, while she guns down every last one of the Bridget clones.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: Connor is always very kind and helpful towards Bridget, trying to prove how good he can be for her. While she does love him back, her fierce desire to be independent makes him feel he doesn't deserve to be with her.
  • Dragon Ascendant: Bridget's clones are considered to be the smarter of the two sets of clones due to having been able to spend more time around their original compared to Connor's clones and Shannon's clone has been around for so long she is basically the leader of the entire clone populous. But after Bridget manages to definitively kill ever one of her own clones, they end up killing Shannon's clone and become the final Big Bads of the story.
  • Emotion Eater: All the clones feed off the fear and anxiety of their originals, and while in the past they were mostly content to frighten their originals before killing them, they have now, through the leadership of Shannon's last remaining clone, decided that it's better to keep one original alive and constantly feed off their fear.
  • Evil-Detecting Dog: Bridget and Connor's dog, Trudy, recognizes and reacts aggressively to the clones of Connor that appear outside the lab he ends up in. This actually helps to prove to Connor that the Shannon he's speaking to is not a clone when she is easily able to interact with Trudy.
  • Evil Twin: Technically the case for Shannon and her last remaining clone. Both Shannon and the clone use this to their advantages at different points, with Shannon pretending to be the clone, who leads the other clones, to let Connor escape, while the clone later uses Bridget's lack of knowledge of Shannon having a clone to put Shannon in a deadly situation, hoping it would scare her enough to give her another desperately needed meal.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Shannon's first interactions with Bridget are harsh, blunt, and almost controlling, but she's genuinely trying to keep Bridget, who doesn't know what Nonesuch is like, safe from the extremely dangerous clones.
  • Idiot Ball: Had Bridget not gotten cocky and asked the final one of her clones for a drink and just shot them, she might've been able to escape. Because of this mistake, she gets knocked unconscious and captured, with her newly revived clones prepared to keep her captive and torment her.
  • Insecure Love Interest: Both Bridget and Connor feel this way about themselves, but each for different reasons.
    • Bridget believes that her aggressive demeanor and her tendency to lash out means she can't love Connor the way he deserves and she should try to let him down rather than get his hopes up.
    • Connor believes he's not good enough for Bridget due to her independence and he needs to prove himself to her in order to earn the right to be in a relationship with her.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Bridget can be acerbic and snarky, especially when she's upset, and even gets outright aggressive at her worst, but she is a good person who genuinely loves Connor.
  • The Mentor: Shannon has been stuck in the town for so long that she has become this for others that get stuck in Nonesuch. She especially bonds with Bridget as she was the first of the pair that Shannon managed to rescue.
  • Minimalist Cast: While there are technically a ton of characters, they are all either Connor or his clones, Bridget or her clones, and Shannon and her single clone. Other characters appear, but they are all seen in just flashbacks and the main action focuses on these three and the clones within Nonesuch.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Bridget's brothers react like this after realizing they just tossed Connor in when he can't swim, clearly feeling guilty for nearly hurting him.
    • After having shot Shannon, not having known she actually had a clone that was the true one tormenting her for a long time, Bridget is absolutely distraught and tries to desperately apologize to the dying woman. Shannon, understanding why Bridget did this, calmly forgives her in her last moments and insists that she be kind to herself.
  • Poor Communication Kills: One of the most constant problems that plague the characters over the course of the series. This mostly comes in the form of the various characters not properly talking to one another, which often results in their problems getting worse. This includes:
    • Connor refuses to explain to Bridget's family that he can't swim, which nearly results in him drowning when her brothers toss him in a pool.
    • Connor's desire to protect Bridget and be "necessary" for her results in him trying to sacrifice himself for her rather than simply communicating his fears and anxieties to her. This causes him to get unnecessarily tormented by the clone Connors for longer and nearly results in Bridget getting drowned.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Shannon's clone successfully tricks Bridget into shooting the real Shannon, but she soon discovers that despite being on the verge of death, Shannon isn't the least bit afraid, denying the clone a final meal which lets Connor's clones kill her moments later.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Shannon, after watching the girl she raised like a daughter in Nonesuch die in her arms, becomes so furious that she proceeded to kill and bury every one of her clones ...except for one, who would eventually become the leader of all the other clones due to her age.
    • Bridget eventually goes on one against the clones after getting sick of them tormenting her...twice, as the first time actually fails due to her getting overconfident, allowing the last clone to knock her out. The second time results in the Bridget clones being killed for good.
  • Super Drowning Skills: Connor cannot swim, a fact that he usually hides out of a sense of embarrassment. One time, this nearly results in him drowning when Bridget's brothers, who don't know any better, toss him in the pool after he refuses to join them or even explain why.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: We can see that before Shannon came to Nonesuch she was an example of a bad Christian, often using the Bible's words to judge and scold her friends for what they'd do. Getting stuck in the town caused her to change and become far more kind, now wishing for others to find their way rather than insulting them for not following God's word already.
  • The Un-Smile: Any time the clones give a smile it is either a malicious smirk or sneer, or one of these, usually given when they know the person they're a clone of tells a lie. It's incredibly haunting and serves to further emphasize how inhuman they are.
