Moby Dick: Back From The Deep is a Horror Webcomic by Matt Schorr.

Katherine Barlow is one of the daughters of the mayor of White Sands, a beachfront community. Well, while he's still mayor, anyway. He lost the last election to one Mr. Beckman, and the townsfolk are more-than-eager for the day when he's kicked out of office. In the meantime, they seem quite eager to make the Barlow family aware of how much they loathe them.

However, her life is about to get MUCH more difficult when a giant undead white whale attacks the town and kills her crush.

So now, Katherine and her town find themselves drawn into a world of horror, in the form of the great white whale Moby-Dick, who is shown to be a lot more monstrous and evil than the initial story would have you believe.

The comic was started on January 9th, 2018. As of June 22nd, 2018, Matt has been turning to Kickstarter to fund physical issues of the comic.

Moby Dick: Back From The Deep contains examples of:

  • Antagonist Title: The comic is named after the great undead white whale.
  • Barred from the Afterlife: As it turns out, Captain Ahab and his crew have been pursuing Moby Dick as ghouls, trying to kill it for centuries because it's the only way they can be allowed to die.
  • Death by Looking Up: Mayor Barlow's final actions before dying are looking up in time to see the boat falling towards him.
  • Monster Whale: Moby Dick. In addition to being a centuries-old ocean ghoul, it's also big enough to fit ships inside its mouth.
  • Raising the Steaks: Moby Dick is a giant UNDEAD white whale that's been terrorizing the oceans of the world for centuries.
  • Recursive Canon:
    • Turns out the Moby Dick book exists in the world of the comic. Thing is, Herman Melville kind of left out that Moby Dick is ancient, and UNDEAD.
    • He also didn't mention that Captain Ahab and his crew are now also undead, and can't get their long-sought-after eternal rest until Moby Dick is put down for good.
  • Rousing Speech: Captain Ahab delivers one to his crew in the fifth page of chapter four.
  • The Sleepless: Down in the Pequod's sleeping quarters, Ishmael tells Katherine that, being undead, none of the Pequod's crew really need to sleep.
  • Waving Signs Around: A number of shots show people waving around signs showing their disdain for Mayor Barlow, and how Beckman would be a much better mayor.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Katherine says this when she sees a pod of Orcas making a beeline for Moby Dick.
