After Luigi is thrown into Bowser’s prison during the events of the movie, he manages to find a way to escape, bringing King Penguin and Lumalee with him. Together, the three try to find a way to rescue the other prisoners while avoiding recapture.

This Fan Webcomic contains examples of:
- Adaptational Angst Upgrade: As a Darker and Edgier take on the movie, several characters get it in the fanfic
- Luigi witnesses his older brother supposedly die when he and Donkey Kong get hit by the Blue Shell Attack, driving him over the Despair Event Horizon.
- King Penguin ends up recaptured by one of the sadistic prison guards when he decides to go sneak back to the prison in an attempt to free his people, and has his foot sawed off in revenge for the guards that were accidentally killed by Luigi during the initial prison escape.
- Lumalee ended up in Bowser's prison in the first place because he and several of his fellow hungry Lumas were captured by Kamek believing they were the fabled "Star Children" and ended up tortured and the only survivor as a result. It's easy to see where Lumalee's Death Seeker attitude came from.
- Cerebus Retcon: Lumalee gets mad at Luigi and King Penguin when they call him "Star Child", though he does make an exception for Luigi eventually. In Act 3, it's revealed that he and several of his fellow hungry Lumas were captured by Kamek believing they were the fabled "Star Children" and ended up tortured as a result; Lumalee was the only one who survived. He's even ends up swearing that he's not a Star Child when he's having a traumatic flashback and believes Kamek is torturing him.
- Disproportionate Retribution: A Dry Bones got thrown into Bowser’s prison just because he asked the Koopa King a dumb question.
- Dull Eyes of Unhappiness: Luigi gets these after witnessing Mario's supposed death.
