The Dream Warriorsnote  ... and a Scarfy.

Kirby: Behind the Scenes is a Kirby webcomic made by Adam Lewis aka Dededeman7. Contrary to how it’s name implies, the main protagonist of this comic isn’t Kirby, but King Dedede. The series vies the adventures of the Dream Warriors, consisting of King Dedede, Waddle Dee Jr. (the comic's take on Bandana Waddle Dee), a yellow Waddle Doo, Kirby's brother Cloud and Meta Knight's brother Raven. The series have seven sagas, the first two of which are in process of being remastered, the third ones is on hiatus due to these remasters, and the other four sagas are merely in Dededeman's mind. Starting from the second saga, Drawcia, the Big Bad of the first saga, and Rachel, Waddle Dee Jr.'s girlfriend, join the Dream Warriors.

The following tropes are regarding the remastered version, but some of them are still present in the original.

  • Adaptational Attractiveness: Drawcia in canon is a blob of paint. Here, she’s a Hitomian (the closest thing this series has to humans), which makes her, uh… sexy.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: In canon, Dedede is a self-proclaimed king. Here, he’s the forth in a line of kings that started with his great-grandfather, who unified the islands that now form Dream Land.
  • Adaptational Badass: While he is no slouch in canon, Dedede here knows swordsmanship and hand-to-hand combat. He also was never possessed or brainwashed (though the idea of 0 possessing him was brought up as a What If?)
  • Adaptational Dye-Job:
    • In canon, Drawcia and Claycia have blue hair, and Paintra has pink hair. Here, Drawcia is blonde, Paintra is brunette, and Claycia is black-haired.
    • Waddle Doo is yellow here. He’s commonly called a lemon as a result.
  • Adaptational Heroism:
    • All of Dedede’s more selfish traits are removed here.
    • Drawcia has a Heel-Face Turn here, something she didn’t (have the chance to) do in canon.
    • Heck, pretty much all antagonists not associated with Dark Matter (except Magolor, who is more evil than in canon, and the Squeak Squad, who weren’t possessed by Dark Nebula yet) are either friends of Dedede’s or Anti-Villains. The friendly ones include Marx and Sectonia.
  • Adaptational Job Change: Hyness is a scientist here instead of a mage. It’s all for the best, anyway.
  • Adaptational Name Change: Downplayed, but Bandana Waddle Dee is changed to Waddle Dee Jr.
  • Adaptational Species Change:
    • Drawcia and Paintra. In canon, they’re Living Paintings; here, they’re Hitomians, the closest thing this series has to humans.
    • President Haltmann, Susie, Francisca, Flamberge and Zan Partizanne are all Halcandrans, due to them being related to Hyness, who is all but stated in canon to be one.
    • Taranza is also a Halcandran, but unlike the abovementioned examples, he’s not related to Hyness.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Magolor is more cruel and ruthless than in canon.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Francisca, Flamberge and Zan Partizanne don’t have their elemental powers from canon.
  • Adapted Out:
    • Vividria, given Drawcia’s major role and the fact that Vividria is never seen or mentioned.
    • Animated Armor enemies were turned into simple armors that are worn by certain characters. For example, Sir Kibble became the armor of a Waddle Dee named Mack.
  • Age Lift: In canon, Kirby and Ribbon are both kids. Here, they’re eighteen.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Drawcia, Paintra and Claycia were bullied as kids because of their art-themed magic, and Elline was their Only Friend.
  • Alternate Universe: Dededeman has stated this series to be one. The fact he often does crossovers with other Kirby fan-works that he likes does help.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Early in the series, Waddle Dee Jr. loses his right arm, which Waddle Doo replaces with an automail arm.
  • Arc Villain: All of them connected somehow to Dark Matter.
    • The first arc has Drawcia.
    • The second arc has Drawcia’s brother Kyle. The arc also gives Drawcia a Freudian Excuse and has her make a Heel–Face Turn.
    • The first half of the third arc has Gobi, a separatist tyrant from the desert.
  • Author Appeal:
    • Dude's a big fan of Dedede, if his online name wasn’t enough giveaway.
    • His other online name, DinoDude89, hints that he’s fond of dinosaurs. Given how he created a dinosaur-like subspecies of Dark Matter, of which Zero is a member, it shows.
    • He also likes the queen of Ripple Star, since he gave her a bigger role and paired her up with Dedede.
    • He also seems to like women with big breasts, since every humanoid adult female is well-endowed.
  • Badass Adorable: Rachel. What else do you expect from a female Waddle Dee with ninja skills?
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Drawcia’s Heel–Face Turn was caused by Dedede pardoning her crimes.
  • Berserk Button:
    • Calling Dedede fat or Waddle Dee Jr. short will cause them to snark at you.
    • Drawcia, who already has a Hair-Trigger Temper, goes ballistic if you hurt the other Dream Warriors, especially Dedede.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Waddle Doo is the Butt-Monkey of the Dream Warriors, but he’s a powerful Cyborg Gadgeteer Genius.
  • Butt-Monkey: Deconstructed. Waddle Doo, fed up with being this, roboticizes himself.
  • Cain and Abel: Kyle pinned the death of his parents on his sister Drawcia, making them enemies.
  • The Cameo: As the Dream Warriors were preparing to face Kyle one last time, Marx can be seen in a panel.
  • Canon Foreigner: Multiple, but most notable are Cloud (Kirby’s brother), Raven (Meta Knight’s brother) and Rachel (Waddle Dee Jr.’s girlfriend).
  • Chick Magnet: Dedede; a lot of girls like him, be it platonically (Drawcia, Sectonia, Mimi) or romantically (Rippla, Holly, Layla). While Dedede himself only has feelings for Rippla, he does see the other girls (except Layla) as good friends, especially Drawcia.
  • Composite Character: A minor case with Claycia, who got the role of Drawcia and Paintra’s sister from Vividria who is Adapted Out.
  • Death Equals Redemption: Gobi, in the last minutes of his life, saw the monster he became and expressed his regret towards it. Since Heaven and Hell exist in this universe, Gobi was Easily Forgiven due to his regret by Solaron, the ruler of Heaven, and allowed to be Together in Death with his parents, who were also in Heaven.
  • Demoted to Extra: Kirby and Meta Knight, though it’s moreso with the latter; Kirby at least is a close ally to the Dream Warriors, while Meta Knight is The Ghost.
  • A Dog Named "Dog": We have two Waddle Dees named Waddle Dee (to avoid confusion between the two, it’s noted that they’re father and son, so the father is named Waddle Dee Sr., and the son is named Waddle Dee Jr.) and a Waddle Doo named Waddle Doo.
  • D-Cup Distress: Drawcia is insecure about her figure, and she (and, in fact, every humanoid female in the series) has a sizable bust. She doesn’t mind Dedede seeing her in underwear, though.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: There was a gag of killing off Waddle Doo in the early comics. However, Dededeman now sees this gag as Old Shame.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones:
    • Even during her time as an antagonist, it’s implied Drawcia still cared about Paintra and Claycia.
    • 0, of all people, had a girlfriend before an incident that resulted in Dark Star’s destruction.
  • Evil Uncle: Ribbon has one; this uncle betrayed Ripple Star for Magolor's empire.
  • Excuse Plot: Dedede and Drawcia only end up fighting because of a mix-up at the dry cleaner’s. And then Dedede breaks Drawcia’s broom when he attempts to ride it. Lampshaded by Waddle Doo:
Waddle Doo: “Seriously, this is all over some mixed up dry cleaned laundry?”
    • Ultimately, it’s subverted: when things clear up, it’s revealed that Drawcia’s desire to take over Dream Land is more than just mixed-up laundry.
  • Expy:
    • According to Dededeman, Dark Matter is this for the Koopa Troop, with Zero as Bowser and Salvodore (Dark Matter Blade) as Kamek.
    • Magolor is also this for Andross.
    • Penny, Susie’s adopted sister, looks suspiciously similar to Peridot, both being primary green Gadgeteer Geniuses working for an empire that seeks to take over the universe. Heck, even their names start with the same first two letters! It’s left to see if Penny will have a Heel–Face Turn like Peridot did (the fact Penny has a deep-rooted hatred for Magolor helps).
  • Freudian Excuse:
  • Gender Flip: Spinni.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Drawcia easily gets angry, especially if you hurt her friends or if you see her in underwear (unless you’re Dedede in the case of the latter).
  • Interspecies Romance: Both Dedede (a Billow Bird) and Kirby (a puffball) are in love with fairies. And that’s without taking into account that Dedede is a Chick Magnet.
  • Jerkass Ball: Kirby in the first arc, due to Drawcia removing his limbs. He even tried to kill her and only failed because Dedede caught the sword by it’s blade before it could hit Drawcia. (That’s the in-universe explanation; out of universe, this happened due to a retcon caused by Old Shame.)
  • Mythology Gag: Dedede has a penchant for monsters taken from the anime (he owns five large Galbos). However, the monsters here are wild animals instead of creations of Nightmare.
  • Named by the Adaptation: 0's generals: Dark Matter Blade is Salvodore, Dark Mind is Quincy, Dark Nebula is Jerrold, and Dark Crafter is Niles.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Unlike anyone else in the series, Hyness has legs.
  • Official Couple:
    • First of all, Dedede and Rippla (Dededeman’s version of the Fairy Queen).
    • Second, Waddle Dee Jr. and Rachel.
    • Outside of the Dream Warriors, we have Kirby and Ribbon.
  • Related in the Adaptation:
    • Claycia to Drawcia and Paintra, the three of them being triplets.
    • Hyness here is President Haltmann's brother (and, by extension, Susie's uncle), as well as Francisca, Flamberge and Zan Partizanne's father.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Dedede, big time. He likely got it from his father, Derrin.
  • Running Gag:
    • Dedede, Waddle Dee Jr. and Waddle Doo insulting each other.
    • There’s also a gag of calling Waddle Doo a lemon.
  • Sarcasm Mode: Waddle Doo’s default mode.
  • Self-Made Orphan: Kyle is this, though he claimed that Drawcia is this.
  • Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: Non-humanoid species have their females be identified this way, with them having visible eyelashes.
    • Rachel also has a lavender bow, though she turns it into a headband when she’s about to fight someone.
  • They Killed Kenny Again: There was a Running Gag of killing off Waddle Doo. However, Dededeman sees it as Old Shame.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: When Rachel learns that Vincent blinded Waddle Dee Jr.’s right eye, all bets were off.
  • World of Buxom: Three in fact: Pop Star, Ripple Star and Halcandra. On all three of them, humanoid female characters are shown to be rather busty. Of course, some girls (like Drawcia) are shy about their figure, and they magically cover it up.
