An ancient alien relic chooses Kate Blast to be one of its Guardians. An alien army, seeking the magical powers of the artifact, has its sights set on Earth. Kate, Sonya, Cam, and Asmaa must fight to protect the Earth from destruction, while discovering the true nature of their new found powers.

Kate Blast is targeted for all people ages 16 and up.

All characters are LGBTQ+ unless otherwise noted.


General Tropes:

  • Bad Boss: Admiral Antlia, refuses to listen to his brother, Captain Pyxis, who is doing the work on their mission to secure the Burning Heart. Choosing instead to make their point through the senseless murder of a subordinate.
  • Big Brother Bully: Antlia, to Pyxis. Preferring to use the latter as a pawn to his own schemes than flesh and blood.
  • Cat Folk: The alien species that Pyxis and Antlia belong to resemble cat people.
  • Cast Full of Gay: All Characters are LGBTQ+ unless otherwise noted
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Kate is implied to have a troubled past, particularly with the death of her significant other Syrus.
  • Death by Origin Story: Syrus and Ricky, killed by the Burning Heart during the flashback to Kate's initial encounter with it.
  • Doom Magnet: Kate, or at least she believes herself to be.
  • Family of Choice: B.A.S.H., the organization Kate found herself square in the middle of after saving Sonya twice.
  • Hammerspace: Thankfully for Kate and Sonya, the outfit changes and weapon equipping abilities given by the Burning Heart utilize it for storage.
  • I Let Gwen Stacy Die: Subverted with Sonya, Kate wasn't going to let that happen after the Burning Heart killed Syrus and Ricky in front of her.
  • Involuntary Shapeshifting: Upon first being chosen as a Guardian, both Sonya and Asmaa experience this.
  • The Lad-ette: Kate can drink you under the table and beat up villains with her electrified baseball bat.
  • Magical Girl Warrior: Kate, the ex-marine magical girl, and Sonya, a selfless badass when not caught unaware.
  • Our Demons Are Different: In-universe, being a demon doesn't come with alignment restrictions or anything other than some aesthetic differences from a pure human and some cool powers. As well, injecting demon blood into your own bloodstream can make anyone into one
  • Past Experience Nightmare: Kate re-experiencing the gruesome incident that got her discharged and her life interest/co-workers killed at the end of chapter 2.note 
  • Survivor Guilt: Played straight with Kate and her love interest/co-workers.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Syrus' motorcycle gift to Kate, given right before their last flight together
  • Transformation Sequence: Easier to list who doesn't have one.
