Webcomic / Dogelore

Go To

Dogelore (often stylized as dogelore), is a series of webcomics posted on Reddit on the subreddit r/dogelore focusing on Doge, a dog who is "Wacky and Uncharacteristic." They are derived from the "Doge" memes, that were popular during the mid 2010s.

The comics started out with a basic premise, with Doge's ex wife Karen somehow trapping him in places or objects and the dog begging his ex wife to release him, usually with profanities. As time went on, the comics have expanded far beyond the “Karen trapping Doge in something” premise and the comics seem to revolve around everything and anything, even expanding the cast of characters.

The members of the Dogelore community have banded together to develop a Friday Night Funkin' Game Mod based on the comics and lore known as Friday Doge Funkin'.

Karen you whore! Release me from these tropes at once!

  • Abusive Parents:
    • Karen is implied to be this, which explains Doge wanting to see his kids again. However, in other comics, Doge isn't implied to be much better.
    • There's also Deborah, who belittles and neglects her son Rupert for her own needs.
  • Catchphrase: Walter's, "I like firetrucks and moster [sic] trucks. Walter."
  • Children Are Innocent: Li'l Bro. While sometimes willing to take the jerkass ball, he's usually very sweet and kind. This doesn't stop him from learning about kid unfriendly stuff.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Nearly everyone has some kind of endearing quirk. Special mentions go to Jim, a serial killer who has a... thing for sucking toes, Cheems, who has a speech impediment which adds m's to nearly every word, and Walter, a dog with an affection for monster and fire trucks.
  • Cool Uncle: Uncle Murphy. He's one of the few genuinely kindhearted characters who isn't an asshole or eccentric.
  • Cool Big Bro: Big Bro, like Murphy above, is a genuinely kind character, although he's heavily prone to Depending on the Writer and sometimes willing to take the Jerkass Ball, he's usually portrayed as helping Lil Bro with various things or just being a good brother to him.
  • Crossover: Apparently, Isabelle is among the characters of Dogelore, usually portrayed as Doge's new wife.
  • Depending on the Writer: Due to every post being made by a different user, this is to be expected.
  • Foil: Caesar is this to Doge. As opposed to the more.. "eccentric" Doge, Caesar is more laid-back and rooted in reality and reason. As such, he is generally regarded to be "normal and characteristic."
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: While Karen isn't evil, per se, she is generally a bitchy person. That doesn't mean she doesn't love her sons.
  • Hate Sink: Deborah. While some of the other characters have done some pretty bad things, Deborah is usually portrayed as a unlikable, abusive and neglectful mother towards Rupert. Coach Henry is an ironic version, as he is a character that is designed to be as unpleasant and unlikable as possible, but is jokingly regarded as a "wholesome" character in spite of his negative qualities.
  • MegaCorp: CROMCH! a candy company which puts parasites in their products, abuses poor Melkoges and sells boner pills
  • Negative Continuity: Due to the posts being made by different people, nothing really stays the same outside of series posts.
  • Only Sane Man: Caesar often plays this role, being exasperated at Doge and his friends antics.
  • Pædo Hunt: Coach Henry, a baseball coach that preys on children, with him being a mix of Doge and a elephant seal.
  • Physical God: Cheems is implied to be this. Due to the subreddit's general lack of canon, it varies by writer.
  • Propeller Hat of Whimsy: Lil Bro, Doge's younger son, is a kid who's usually depicted wearing a propeller hat.
  • They Killed Kenny Again: Everyone has died at least once, and come back in later comics all better. Justified due to the posts being made by different users.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Cheems has quite a fascination with err... "cheemsburbgers."
  • Villain Protagonist: In some comics, some of Doge's actions are... questionable, to say the least. These usually involve him masturbating in a kid's ride, performing mass murder, engaging in child abuse, among other things.
