Doe of Deadwood is an online webcomic created by Songdog-Strayfang on deviantART. It features a doe in service to a deadwood tree who also happens to be a demon. It debuted December 24, 2017 and has consistently updated every other day since.
The titular Doe of Deadwood was born sickly and traveled far from her home to the rumored deadwood tree who was said to grant miracles. However, upon reaching this tree she finds that the tree has given up on granting miracles. But after much determination, she manages to convince him otherwise, and is indebted to the tree for life.
The story begins with her fulfilling her duties to fill the soil, but she happens to mess with the wrong wolf...
Doe of Deadwood contains examples of...
- Almost Dead Guy: Almost played straight. Rig manages to hold on just long enough to convince deadwood to bring her back.
- Anguished Declaration of Love: After finding out that what he was considering to be his new family was responsible for the death of his old family, Fen painfully confesses he loves Rig.
- Asskicking Leads to Leadership: Averted. Though the bucks are expected to fight, and preferably win in those fights, in the Ekhart herd they vote on decisions, and in the Morhind herd decisions are made by the oldest deer in the herd.
- Blatant Lies: When Rig meets Rhiker she tells her that her herd has no scent because they descended from the stars.
- Didn't Think This Through: In hindsight, probably not the best idea to lie to a demon or to the friend you're trying to protect from said demon.
- Everyone Has Standards: "My kind is a creature all the world has made a feast of. I shall not myself add to the number of hunters which prey upon us. What a barbaric world that would be."
