This is actually a revised version of a comic called The Crawling City which was originally hosted on Snafu Comics. While the scenarios are similar, the main characters of that comic belong to the artist who took them with them when they cancelled it, necessitating some changes for this one. Crawling Dreams contains examples of:
- Always Night: For the duration of the story it seems to take place at night or twilight even though it seems like night time, the sky has no stars.
- Ancient Evil: Implied with both Ghast and Nyarla numerous times throughout the comic.
- Asshole Victim: Most of the people who mess with Nyarla are usually perverted creeps and/or muggers that you really wouldn't feel sorry for when Ghast rips them apart.
- Attack of the Monster Appendage: Done in the very first chapter by Ghast to an exasperated Nyarla.
- Axe-Crazy: Nearly every background character in the comic is portrayed as crazed and gleeful maniacs.
- Berserk Button: Intending any harm on Nyarla in any way will usually result in Ghast messily tearing someone apart and/or eating them.
- Big-Breast Pride: In chapter 10 Nyarla and Ghast buy a cartful of snacks and Ghast tells Nyarla she'll get fat if she eats it all. Nyarla responds by proudly puffing out her chest and saying it's okay because all the fat will go straight to her boobs.
- Bowdlerise: The Webtoon version was forced to turn down some of the more fanservice-y moments due to the site strict stance against them. In particular, they gave Nyarla Modesty Shorts, when in the unedited version she was implied to wear no panties at all.
- Circus of Fear: In chapter 31, while it's a background event that doesn't make it any less horrifying, complete with a Monster Clown.
- Crapsack World: Penny and Molly go to meet a girl who can tell them about the monsters of the city. Said girl reveals that she's a monster herself, albeit friendly, and has a relationship with a tentacled monster. They tell the girls, who think monsters invaded their world, that, no, the monsters were there first before humans arrived. Innsomuth is just one of the place that hardly hides the fact. The ignorant masses just hardly notice.
- Damsel in Distress: Nyarla, Though more often than not she's not aware of the danger. Though Ghast usually comes to her rescue before things get out of hand.
- Deadpan Snarker: Ghast is this, on occasion.
- Eldritch Abomination: Implied with Nyarla and outright shown with Ghast. Heck the city of Innsomuth is implied to be full of them.
- Eldritch Location: The City of Innsmouth itself, there seems to be an Eldritch Abomination and Monstrous Humanoid around every corner with very very few 'normal' people in the story.
- Halloween Special: For the comic Halloween special Nyarla and a few guest characters battle inside a Halloween themed online game.
- Fanservice: Almost all the female characters are very cute and very curvy.
- Gamer Chick: Nyarla just loves to play games.
- Killer Rabbit: Ghast usually appears to be a very cute talking cat, but can quickly morph into an Eldritch Abomination that can tear people apart with his tentacles. Nyarla doesn't see him as any different from a cute cat when he transforms, however.
- Meaningful Background Event: Chapter 31, in a background event a lost looking little girl is led into a circus tent by a clown and... the tent turns into an Eldritch Abomination and eats her.
- Ms. Fanservice: Almost all the girls arguably, but Nyarla in particular gets the most focus with her default outfit being very tight and form-fitting with a miniskirt that shows off her thick thighs in thigh-highs. She also enjoys wearing Chain Mail Bikini outfits when playing games, showing off even more of her voluptuous figure.
- NEET: Nyarla is one, seeing as how she usually stays home playing games and eating snacks, only occasionally going out to play at the arcade or buy new games/more snacks. It's not clear who provides for her to live like this either.
- One-Winged Angel: Ghast who shows that he's not a normal kitty as early as the first comic when he suddenly grows in size and gains tentacles to get Nyarla to stop playing video games for the night. The thing is in that strip, he was still in a cutsey form. But when he gets serious, he looks decidedly less cute.
- Vapor Wear: In the censored version Nyarla wears Modesty Shorts, but in the uncensored version it's incredibly obvious she isn't wearing panties.
