Behind the GIFs is a gag-per-day webcomic series produced by KatRaccoon Comics (with many of the Webtoon-exclusive strips also drawn by AC Stuart of Awoo fame) that began in 2014.
The general premise of the comic is simple: take a random GIF from the internet and turn it into a strip by adding in some humorous artist-drawn panels that relate to it one way or another.
On Webtoon, the webcomic reached its conclusion on March 12, 2020.
You can take a gander at the strips on the author's website and on Webtoon.
Behind the Tropes:
- Art Shift: Given the comic's nature, almost every strip has at least one or more panels that switch from the rather cartoony, digitally-drawn artstyle to an often more realistic-looking animated GIF with actual objects, animals and/or humans in them.
- Animate Inanimate Object: In "Rock Cops", there's a rock that gains a face upon spotting a frolicking red panda, and eventually a full body with a police outfit when it informs said red panda about frolicking at "nearly twice the normal speed limit."
- Anthropomorphic Food: "I Want to Play a Game" features two anthropomorphic bananas.
- Hurricane of Puns: "Welcome to C-attle" features tons of wordplay revolving around the letter C:"Hey, folks! Welcome to "C"-attle!"
