Anacrine Complex
is a Hiveworks webcomic about the Anacrites, who were exposed to an experimental medicine called Anacride, meant to treat Black's Disease, which makes the body attack its own nervous system, by strengthening neural pathways, and getting more than they expected in the bargain...
- Blessed with Suck: Some of the Anacrites suffer from this, particularly the ones who have Black's, with Sterling hinting that the more that they use their powers, the worse their condition gets.
- Differently Powered Individuals: Anacrites are those who have been empowered by the Anacride.
- Gone Horribly Right: The Anacride was made to counteract, and maybe even cure, Black's Disease by strengthening neural pathways to compensate for the damage the disease causes, but in some cases, particularly when healthy individuals are exposed to it, the effect goes so far as to give the individual superhuman powers. Ben even lampshades it.
- Love Makes You Evil: Sterling's research partner, and possibly wife, who saved his life with an invention of hers, has Black's, and Sterling is desperately trying to save her.
- Professor Guinea Pig: It's hinted, and eventually confirmed, that Sterling tested the Anacride on himself.
- Walking Techbane: Lee's magnetic powers mean that he can fry technology if he's mot careful, which prevents him from getting on planes.
