Submissions Only is a webseries created by Broadway actors Kate Wetherhead and Andrew Keenan-Bolger. It focuses on Penny Reilly, a struggling actress in New York City and her best friend Tim Trull, a casting director.

Submissions Only contains examples of:

  • Alliterative Name: Tim Trull.
  • All Gays Love Theatre: Many of the male characters fall under this trope.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": Many of the auditions Tim sees.
  • Betty and Veronica: In season one, Penny is the Archie to Aaron's Betty and Eric's Veronica. By season two, it seems to have shifted so that Aaron is the Archie to Penny's Betty and Serena's Veronica.
  • Berserk Button: Penny did not break her vagina! It was her hip! Her hip!
  • Butt-Monkey: Non-equity tours do get the butt of the joke a lot.
  • Cold Opening: The auditions at the beginning of each episode.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Gail is as deadpan as they come.
  • Granola Girl: Downplayed with Raina, who occasionally makes remarks about eating healthy foods and, in one episode, takes Tim and Penny out to a gluten-free restaurant with dry cookies.
  • Hidden Depths: While Gail comes across as snarky and rude, she does care about people, and tries her best to help them in their auditions, i.e. telling Jill to lay off the ponytail, and to stop trying to come across as cute/neurotic.
  • Large Ham: Many of the people auditioning for Tim and Penny are very hammy.
  • Lighter and Softer: It's this to it's much darker counterpart It Could Be Worse.
  • Meaningful Name: Randall Moody is not moody— it's misleading because he's always happy!
  • Oh, Crap!: When it's revealed that Linda is the new director of Jeremy's Fort.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Penny's harness malfunction in Mean Girls the musical.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: Penny and Tim surly count as one.
  • Running Gag:
    • Each episode begins with an (often terrible) audition.
    • The two girls that are always at an audition that Penny's at, and compliment each other on how skinny they are.
    • The mispronunciation of Penny's last name.
    • Linda not knowing that Tim is gay.
    • Heyyyyyy.
    • Byeeeee.
    • Penny's ringtone being the theme song of the show.
  • Silent Snarker: Gail has her moments.
  • Show Within a Show: Numerous, including Iron Dog and Mean Girls: the musical
  • Straight Gay: Tim. And how.
  • Waiting for a Break:
    • Penny reading for auditions, while auditioning for shows.
    • Randall is a straight example, as he's constantly talking about wanting to make it big. Or, at least get cast in something.
