Shrekbusters is a comedy short made by Mario Master 412 and Luigi Yoshi Shell. It follows a man who calls an exterminator to get rid of a wild, murderous Shrek in his basement.

You can watch it here.

Note that this page contains unmarked spoilers. You Have Been Warned.

This work provides examples of:

  • Big Bad: The Shrek monster in the basement.
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: Barely visible, but in the scene right before the big fight, the Shrek-obsessed guy has a piece of the onion shell in his mouth.
  • Captain Obvious:
Shrek-Obsessed Guy: The basement is right here, which Shrek is in.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: The Shrek-obsessed guy is generally regarded as this.
Shrek-Obsessed Guy: Y'know, Shrek truly is love, Shrek truly is life.
Interviewer: Ooookay — Jesus Christ — um...
  • Cool, but Inefficient: The exterminator's method of finding the Shrek monster through the phone flash after taking a picture. Just how long this takes is lampshaded by the awkward silence after trying it out.
  • Creepy Basement: The Shrek-obsessed guy's basement is shrouded in shadows and inhabited by a murderous Shrek monster.
  • Double Tap: After the Shrek-obsessed guy throws Shrek's baby at him, the exterminator walks over and finishes Shrek off with a shot to the head.
  • Flashback Effects: Exaggerated. The interview in the opening has heavy old-timey effects on the camera and a retro jazz score, but is set only a year in the past.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Attempted by the Shrek-obsessed guy, but it's quickly shut down by the exterminator.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: Shrek has his own baby thrown at him.
  • Jump Scare: Shrek's reveal is played like a jumpscare.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: More accurately, killed mid-word.
    Shrek Monster: OH— (gunshot)
  • Leitmotif: The Shrek monster has one, a menacing four-note figure usually played in the low register.
  • Mickey Mousing: The orchestra hits are timed to the shots of each of the characters before the big fight.
  • Mockumentary: The movie opens with a fake interview of the Shrek-obsessed guy.
  • Oh, Crap!: Said by the exterminator as the Shrek-obsessed guy ruins his escape and attracts Shrek to him.
  • Patricide: Technically. Shrek is killed due to his infant child being thrown at him.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner:
    Exterminator: Get busted, buster.
  • Prolonged Prologue: The opening interview makes up nearly 1/3 of the sketch. Justified, though, because the video itself is only around 4 minutes long.
  • Rule of Cool: Multiple explosions go off after Shrek is hit with a baby, but realistically, there was no cause for them.
  • Shout-Out: The story obviously revolves around Shrek. Some iconic lines are quoted:
Shrek-Obsessed Guy: The Shrek obsession was like an onion. It had layers!
    • Some sequences are shot in a very stylized way that calls back Edgar Wright.
    • There are also a few in the score at the beginning mockumentary:
      • The piano in the background is playing the riff to "I'm A Believer".
      • When the Shrek-Obsessed Guy says he was wishing upon a star, you can hear "When You Wish Upon a Star" in the winds.
    • Also of note is that the Shrek Exterminator says "Back off, man. I'm a professional."
  • Title Drop:
Shrek-Obsessed Guy: We should call it... the Shrekbusters!
  • Trademark Favorite Food: The Shrek-obsessed guy is never seen without an onion. He even defeats the Shrek monster with his onion.
  • The Voice: The interviewer from the beginning is never seen.
