Nutnfancy is a popular YouTube reviewer of knives, firearms, hiking accessories, and occasional political philosophy. He is known for his polarizing demeanor, wherein people either love to view his videos or loathe his very existence. He is known for his generally unscripted delivery, focusing more on defined talking points than excessively planned-out dialog.

Nutnfancy started his YouTube career exclusively reviewing knives, but eventually expanded his reviews to include outdoor equipment, firearms, firearm accessories, and even extensive videos on his political and philosophical outlook on life.

Tropes:

  • Catchphrase:
    • "Dudes!"
    • "That's what I'm talkin' about!"
    • "Subject to Change."
    • "Here on the Nutnfancy Project."
  • Constructive Criticism: He openly invites his viewers to compare and contrast their opinions and experiences with his own, and his "subject to change" disclaimer has actually played out a few times, as he's shifted some of his opinions due to input and suggestions from his viewers.
  • Character Filibuster: Nutnfancy is known among fans and critics alike for being extremely long-winded, so much so that his videos tend to average 30-45 minutes each without much of a pause in his speech. In some videos, he even takes ten minutes or more on the introduction alone.
  • The Collector: Of knives. Nutnfancy has dozens, if not hundreds, of knives. He also has a sizable gun collection, but it pales in comparison to his wide assortment of knives, the reviews for which were what started his YouTube career.
  • Conspiracy Theorist: Not to any extreme extent. Nutnfancy follows the common belief that the US government desires to completely disarm its populace, and that doing so is intentionally aimed at disarming them and thus making them defenseless against potential tyranny. As with most politically-charged opinions, whether his concerns are valid or not is anyone's guess.
  • Do Not Run with a Gun: Completely averted. "Run and Gun" videos, which simulate tactical combat movement, reloading on the move, and other actions, are a big part of his channel. Of course, he takes great care to practice proper firearm safety, so it's justified.
  • Good Guns, Bad Guns: Averted. He specifically illustrates the pros and cons of a variety of firearms, including the AR and AK platforms, SIGs, H&K, and other assortments of both American and Soviet-era firearms.
  • Honest Advisor: How he and his fans view his videos. He's just trying to advise his viewers on the best products to buy, and he's more than happy to point out that his opinions are the honest truth and not sponsored or compensated by any manufacturers or retailers.
  • Improbable Use of a Weapon: Part and parcel for his channel, though he illustrates a concept he calls "Second Kind of Cool" wherein some of the less-practical aspects of an item, such as pleasing aesthetics, play second fiddle to its actual, practical use.
  • Large Ham: He's speaks in a very strongly annunciated, dramatic tone most of the time, especially when he launches into a lecture about Size And Weight Considerations (SAWC).
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Nutnfancy, as well as most of the guests on his show (including his sons and wife) go by nicknames rather than their real life names. He just refers to his wife as "Mrs. Nutnfancy." His wife also refers to their sons by his nickname (TacticalDoodle) when she's on camera.
  • Shaped Like Itself: His channel is called "The Nutnfancy Project" and, for the longest time, consisted of only himself.
  • Shoot the Hostage Taker: Some of his run-and-gun scenarios are based on this premise.
  • Show, Don't Tell: Zig-zagged. Nutnfancy certainly tells you a lot in his videos, but he also shows a lot, often displaying the item he's reviewing in front of the camera in great detail, and also cutting in video footage of him actually using the item he's reviewing.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Most of his critics accuse him of this. His long-winded lectures certainly come across as either arrogance or cockiness, depending on the viewer. How "small" his name is could be a matter of debate; he's not very well-known in pop culture, but most of the firearm community on the internet at least know of him, even if they're not familiar with his work.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: He will, sometimes multiple times during a single review, emphasize that his statements are only his opinions, that they are subject to change, and that he is experienced but by no means the end-all expert in his field.
  • Taught by Experience: Nutnfancy doesn't give his full opinion on a product until he's actually taken that product out and used it extensively in a real world environment. If it's a gun, he spends hours carrying, shooting, reloading, cleaning, and maintaining it. If it's camp equipment, he takes it on several extended camping trips. If it's a knife, he beats the hell out of it. He heavily tests the items he reviews, sometimes to the point of failure. And he won't hesitate to remind his viewers of this fact in almost every single one of his reviews.
