Mushroom Parodies is a series of plush videos created by Luigi Yoshi Shell. It consists of 3 parodies: Luigi the Ghostbuster, Shroom Wars, and Attack of the Goomba.
You can watch it here.
This series contains examples of:
Series-Wide Tropes:
- Parody: Being that it's called Mushroom Parodies, all of the videos are based off of different films.
- Luigi the Ghostbuster is, of course, Ghostbusters.
- Shroom Wars is Star Wars.
- And Attack of the Goomba, or at least the cold open, takes some likeness from Indiana Jones.
Attack of the Goomba:
- Anti-Climax: Mario simply stomps on the Goomba's head to kill him.
- Awkward Father-Son Bonding Activity: Luigi takes Baby Luigi with him on the quest, even though he's a baby.
- Bring My Brown Pants: Bowser admits he wet himself after the encounter with the Goomba on air. This coincides with Potty Humor.
- Bumbling Dad: Luigi. His infant child is more brave than him.
- Chekhov's Gun: Mario, who comes back after the fight with Shrek to kill the Goomba.
- Coincidental Broadcast: The broadcast about the Goomba just happens to come on while Luigi is listening, which sends him on the quest.
- Cold Open: There's a scene with Bowser that kicks off the short and introduces the Goomba.
- Deus ex Machina: Mario conveniently comes out of nowhere to save Luigi and Baby Luigi from the giant onion.
- Disproportionate Retribution: Goomba is angry at Mario for stomping on his head, so he maims and traumatizes Bowser, permanently turns Luigi into an Amiibo, and attacks a child.
- Ghost Butler: Inverted, the door flings open by itself for Bowser.
- Kid Hero: Baby Luigi is definitely the hero compared to Luigi.
- MacGuffin: The Goomba. Also an Artifact of Doom.
- Mood Whiplash: It goes from an ominous Cold Open and dreary title card... to Luigi screaming "Crawling" by Linkin Park.
- Musicalis Interruptus: A few times, Played for Laughs.
- Bowser interrupts the music and mood to cough, then apologizes.
- Baby Luigi, during the fight with Shrek, stops the music twice to lean on the fourth wall.
- Shout-Out: There is a brief fight with Shrek leading up to the temple.
- Skewed Priorities: Baby Luigi, after discovering that his dad was turned into an Amiibo, celebrates getting a new Amiibo.
- Smash to Black: After Bowser is attacked, the screen smashes to black before displaying the title card.
- Taken for Granite: Luigi is turned into an Amiibo at the end, perhaps permanently.
Luigi the Ghostbuster:
- Affectionate Parody: Of Ghostbusters.
- Big Bad: In both videos, Devil, who is furious at Luigi for busting his ghost buddies.
- Blatant Lies: Devil lulls Luigi into a false sense of security by saying he's not mad at him for busting his buddies. Of course, this isn't true.
- Brainwashed and Crazy: Mario, the one Luigi respects most, is turned into a towering, mindless giant who only wants to kill Luigi.
- Call-Back: Joey, the Koopa from the beginning of the first part, says "Dude, I'm coming!" before being attacked by a ghost. Later, in the second part, a dead Koopa, or Dry Bones, says "Dude, I'm coming!" too, implying he died from the attack and was recruited.
- Cerebus Syndrome: The plot suddenly shifts from a light-hearted Affectionate Parody of Ghostbusters to a dramatic sequence with the literal Devil siccing Luigi's best friend against him.
- Character Catchphrase: In the second part, each one of Devil's Mooks has their own catchphrase that they say as they go to fight Luigi.Luigi Ripoff Thing: Ripoffs are the best!Slimer: Slime sound effect.Various FNAF Animatronics: (Fnaf jumpscare sounds)
- Chekhov's Skill: Mario's cousin uses his capture powers at the end of Luigi the Ghostbuster 2 to defeat King Boo.
- Cold Open: A short scene of two Mushroom Kingdom residents being attacked by a ghost.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: This is the first phase of the fight against the Giant Mario, but then Luigi gets a Heroic Second Wind and beats him.
- This is also how the fight with the Mooks in part 2 plays out.
- Dramatic Thunder: Used to set a mood for the scene in the first part where Devil shows up in Luigi's bedroom.
- Easily Forgiven: Played for Laughs. Grandpa Toad brings back the Big Bad from the first part, putting countless lives in danger... and is immediately forgiven by Mario's cousin and Toad.
- False Friend: The Devil to Luigi, telling him to think of the person he respects most, only to warp that person and turn him against Luigi.
- Glory Days: In the second part, Luigi, broke and living in an apartment with Toad, longs for his old ghost-busting days.
- Grievous Harm with a Body: Luigi knocks the Fnaf animatronics out with Devil's body.
- Happy Dance: Luigi and Mario's cousin have one in the first part after defeating the Big Bad.
- Heroic Second Wind: Luigi gets this in the final battle after a pep talk from Mario's cousin.
- Hoist by His Own Petard: Devil, who is squashed by his Giant Mario creation.
- Inopportune Voice Cracking: Toad. Just Toad.
- Jump Scare: Devil's reveal is played as one of these, with a Scare Chord and ominous thunder.
- Large Ham: Luigi. Every time he talks, he channels a little of this.Luigi: Oh, oh... w-who could that be...? Oh, mama... M-m-m-m-m-, m-m-m-Mariooo???Bowser Jr: Hey, Luigi!Luigi: (Flatly) Oh. It's Jr. What do you want?
- Loud Sleeper Gag: Toad snores and mutters in his sleep.
- Lovable Coward: Luigi, who is terrified of anything and everything.
- Montages: Typically, like Luigi Yoshi Shell and Mario Master 412's other videos, montages are used to show a character acting out their plans.
- Mood Whiplash: The first part goes from the wacky montage of Luigi busting ghosts to an eerie sequence with the Devil spying on Luigi as he sleeps.
- Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: Luigi's accent is very inconsistent throughout. It doesn't even sound Italian!
- Pre-Mortem One-Liner:Luigi: Now, it's-a time to a-light 'em up.
- Arguably a Pre-Asskicking One-Liner, since the person Luigi is referring to is already dead.
- Previously on…: The second part starts with a recap of the first Luigi the Ghostbuster.
- Resurrect the Villain: Grandpa Toad resurrects Devil accidentally for the second part.
- Rule of Cool: In the second part, multiple explosions happen after defeating enemies, even if realistically there was no cause for an explosion.
- But, as Devil said,
Devil: Well, I'm a ghost, okay? There's no logic in this universe. - Shout-Out:
- Mario's cousin's powers and appearance reference Super Mario Odyssey.
- The battle in the second part contains sound effects like and is shot much like Super Smash Bros..
- Wham Shot: The shot of Giant Mario's head rising up above the counter. Or, at least, it was intended to be this.
Shroom Wars:
- Affectionate Parody: Of Star Wars.
- Anti-Climax: Mario easily beats Bowser and goes home with his friends.
- Casual Danger Dialogue:Kamek: Anyways, hi, I'm Kam, and I'm basically here to kill you.
- Credits Gag: "With me being everybody!"
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Link easily beats Kamek. He even lampshades this.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Bowser's minion is just fine with fighting the heroes, but gets mad at Bowser for forgetting his name and leaves.
- Noodle Incident: Bowser refuses to take a random Koopa because he's "a traitor". This is never expanded on.
- Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: Lampshaded by Kamek after his British accent briefly drops.
