Hunter: I'm Hunter, the movie reviewing pony, because when it comes to Cinema humans... cannot be trusted.

Hunter Reviews is a movie reviewing series by Headhunter Production, staring Hunter, an average pony from Baltimare, who's seen way too many bad movies and now, feels it's his obligation to give them what's coming to them. As you can probably gather, Hunter is one of many brony reviewers to come out in the wake of the hit series My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, that use their Original Characters as the face of their videos. Although Hunter differs, in that instead of reviewing primarily MLP related content, he mostly focuses on movies unrelated to the show. He can be found here.

He also has Let's Play channel, that can be found here and a Machinima series called Matt's Mind, that can be found here.

Tropes Associated with Hunter Reviews

  • All Men Are Perverts: In his review of Medal of Honor: Rising Sun, Hunter jokes after the protagonist brother is captured, he would be too excited that said brother's Porn Stash is up for grabs to worry about the fact his brother may be gone for good.
  • Ate His Gun: Hunter occasionally threatens to do this and at one point, actually tried, leading to his employers having to take his gun away.
  • Berserk Button:
  • The Cameo: Every now and then, another pony from Equestria will briefly show up on the show, like in the "Titanic 2" review, where Hunter called in known Smart Girl Twilight, just to show her how blatantly illogical the movie is.
  • Catchphrase: "Because when it comes to cinema, humans... cannot be trusted.
  • Caustic Critic: He generally reviews horrible movies for entertainment value.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Hunter is very annoyed, that somehow the same duo of dumb robbers manage to show up in each "Dog Who Saved (insert holiday)" movie.
  • Deadpan Snarker:
Hunter: That is the acting style of someone who is only in this for a pay check.
    • In his review of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, he tries to see how many wise cracks he can make about Santa Claus using real rocket fuel in toy rockets in a minute: twenty.
  • Flipping the Table: In his more frustrated moments, Hunter flips over the nearest table. His most notable example is his review for Santa Claus Conquers the Martians where he does a couple times.
  • The Ghost: Hunter's unseen employer/boss.
  • Giving Up on Logic: What Hunter often has to resort to, because of the sheer stupidity of what he watches.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Hunter definitely has one.
  • Jerkass: Hunter at times. He insults characters in the movies he reviews, he sometimes threatens physical violence, and he enjoys certain characters like George Bannister getting hurt. He once beat up another pony when his producers try to replace him and he threatens to beat up the next guy they try to replace him with.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold:
    • He can be foul-mouthed at times and has an explosive temper when something irritates him, but he can be nice at times. He tends to draw the line when animals are mistreated in movies. He makes a cruel comment about throwing Zeus in a well before he backpedals out of it, meaning even he can’t be mean to one of the most annoying characters he has to deal with.
    • When he learns that Martians are the ones who have been stealing his cable, he realizes that he owes Derpy Hooves a letter of apology and a muffin.
    • While reviewing “The Dog Who Saved Summer”, he allows a woman on his art team join in on the review rather than shoo her away or be annoyed. He frequently expresses enthusiasm and pride when she makes similar or better comments on the movie.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Hunter’s producers brought in Twilight Sparkle to erase his memory of The Dog Who Saved Christmas Vacation except for the part where he reviewed the movie already. When he questions Greg why they did that him, it was to make him angrier for the review, which they apparently succeeded at.
  • Last-Second Word Swap:
Hunter: What is this, EA Customer Support!? Actually wait, they fixed my problem once. What is this, Google Customer Support!?
  • Palette Swap: Hunter looks like one of Rainbow Dash with a blue mane, green eyes, an olive drab coat, and a laptop cutie mark.
  • Questionable Casting: In-universe. He’s often surprised by certain celebrities finding their way into the worst movies he’s seen.
    • He couldn’t believe “The Dog Who Saved (insert holiday)” series managed to get people like Paris Hilton, Curtis Armstrong, Lance Henriksen, and other well-known people.
    • For his reviews of the first two Fred movies, he was shocked to see John Cena appear as Fred’s made-up dad. He honestly thought John Cena wouldn’t return to the second one since some of the first movie’s actors didn’t return.

  • Rage Breaking Point: After dealing with so much from Titanic II, he finally loses it when the main characters use a credit card to bandage up the lead girl’s best friend. The stupidity of the characters using a credit card as a bandage instead of actual medical supplies causes Hunter to freak out.
  • Running Gag:
    • In his "It sucked, but I still played It" on Medal of Honor: Rising Sun, Hunter repeatedly complains about the NPC who swiped his fire extinguisher early in the game and keeps saying how much said fire extinguisher would have helped him in any given situation, no matter how improbable.
Hunter: Everyone put your guns away, because I could have won the war with that fire extinguisher. It would have been completely non-cannon to World War 2, but I would have won the war with that fire extinguisher.
    • Hunter replaying the clip of George (the dad from the "Dog Who Saved (insert holiday)" movies) getting the wind knocked out of him by a kid.
Hunter: What? His pain amuses me.
    • Hunter screaming into a cloud in frustration.
    • Hunter's "There Are Certain Types of Movies" speech:
Hunter: There are certain movies in this world, that know about the world around them, and then there are certain movies that don't know jack shit about the world around them. This is the movies that don't know anything about the world around them.
  • Sanity Slippage: Hunter slowly goes insane from watching Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny due to how nonsensically bad it is. It’s so bad that he contemplates going on a killing spree and doing other dangerous activities.
  • Sarcasm Mode: Hunter often uses this:
Hunter: I hate the movie so far, don't know if you can tell.
  • Shout-Out:
  • The Unintelligible: Greg, Hunter's unseen editor communicates with Hunter similarly to how the unseen adults communicate with the casts in Peanuts.
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: In-universe for his review of Ghost Dog: A Detective Tail/Dog Gone. He questions how it's meant for kids when it mentions criminals having semi-automatic weapons and plastic explosives, the dog sidekick mating with several female dogs and producing multiple litters, the titular dog being shot while in pursuit of a criminal, the main character trying to pass off a man who's possessed by the dog's ghost as drunk, and other inappropriate material for kids.
