Cole and Marmalade
is a YouTube channel hosted by Chris Poole that focuses on making cat videos.
These videos include ways to take care of cats, funny cat antics, and Top 10 (or another number lists).
In addition to Chris, the roster of cats featured on the channel include:
- Cole - The first cat, and the namesake of the channel. A black cat with a high-pitch meow, who was rescued by a friend as a kitten. He passed away in 2021 from cancer.
- Marmalade - The second cat, and the second namesake. An eccentric orange tabby who was adopted from another family.
- Zig Zag - The third cat, and the first female cat. A tortoiseshell nicknamed the Happiest Kitten Ever.
- Jugg - The fourth cat. Another tortoiseshell.
- Goldenballz Bond - The fifth cat. An orange tabby who looks a lot like Marmalade, but without the white muzzle.
- Mazikeen - The sixth cat. A black cat, or "mini panther".
- Calypso - The seventh cat. A brown and gray tabby, and Mazikeen's sister.
Tropes:
- Big Brother Bully: Early footage of them together shows that Marmalade did not take kindly to Zig Zag at first.
- Big Eater: Marmalade loves to eat, and sometimes tries to swipe human food.
- Captain Obvious: In the House Guest video, Chris says that the exit is clearly marked...with a door, and gives the camera a "duh" look.
- Cloudcuckoolander: Even Chris says that Marmalade has never been normal.
- Cute Kitten: Each of the cats were adopted as kittens, and with that comes many videos of kittens meowing, playing together, and eating.
- Extreme Omnivore: Marmalade has a habit of trying to eat plastic.
- In-Series Nickname:
- Marmalade is sometimes called "Marm".
- Zig Zag gets called Ziggy.
- Jugg is nicknamed Juggalugg.
- Mazikeen is usually referred to as just Maz.
- Kindhearted Cat Lover: Cat Man Chris, the main cat servant who films the videos.
- Meaningful Name:
- Cole has coal-black fur, and Marmalade has orange fur.
- Marmalade's original name was Gordo (Spanish for "fat") because he's always hungry.
- Name and Name: Originally "Cole the Black Cat", the channel is now called "Cole and Marmalade".
- Pun: End titles are littered with cat puns, such as "Thanks fur watching" and "Purrlease subscribe".
- Sudden Name Change: Before being adopted, and a little bit afterwards, Marmalade was called Gordo.
- Very Special Episode: "Household Hazards for Cats", which is much more serious in tone than other videos as it discusses various things around the house that could pose a danger to housecats if not handled properly.
