"Archive my classic gmod video
Classic GM Videos' channel description

Classic GM Videos is a Garry's Mod psychological horror Machinima series, and one of the first of its kind.

It takes the form of a YouTube channel belonging to a player who claims to be archiving their videos which were originally created around 2006. The videos themselves seem innocuous at first, resembling very old school machinima or simple clips of someone messing around in their game, but as the videos go on, the presence of something clearly unnatural starts growing more prominent.

This channel provides examples of:

  • all lowercase letters: Almost all text in the channel is written in lowercase with very few exceptions, from the titles to the descriptions.
  • Ambiguous Situation: The nature of the shadow figure, especially after the release of "b2".
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: In "bob and bill episode 3: on the run", Bill's criminal records say he is wanted for assault, property damage, grand theft auto, poisoning Dr. Breen... as well as loafing and climbing a tree without a permit.
  • Big Bad: The shadow figure which messes with the player's game, despite their best efforts to be rid of it.
  • Bigger on the Inside: The pond in gm_construct is revealed to be impossibly deep in "pondabyss", and the player makes multiple attempts at exploring it.
  • The Ghost: Multiple videos refer to someone named "scizzymeister0", who appears to be a friend of the protagonist who occasionally instructs them. However, they have made no actual appearances in any of the videos.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: The figure doesn't make a lot of effort to hide, being easily spotted in the corner of the player's vision. The player themselves is clearly aware of it, and the very first video of the channel sees them attempt to physically block them out of view by trapping the doorway with a prop, though the figure simply moves to a nearby window instead.
  • Jump Scare: A few happen through the series.
    • "gm_graveyard creepy secret room tutorial" ends with the player coming face to face with the figure while the video distorts loudly.
    • "hl2-00000000" (currently privated) has the player be teleported in front of what seems to be a flaming skeleton while the video loudly distorts.
    • "kc2_trailer_broken" ends with the player opening the door behind them, only to see the shadow figure waiting for them on the other room.
  • Mind Screw: The player's game becomes progressively weirder over time, but especially in "b2" onwards; the player is suddenly trapped in a room in the same way they trapped the figure all the way in "gmans day out" (the first video of the channel), and in "b3", the map is filled with props haphazardly thrown everywhere, all which connect to other videos. This happens again in "cartest", where the player finds a badly-made copy of their prop car, almost as if someone is trying and failing to copy their actions.
  • Numbers Station: In "half life 2 creepy nova prospect easter egg UPDATE", the player discovers a way to make the radio let out a string of seemingly random numbers thanks to scizzy's help. They turn out to be coordinates, which they use in "pos".
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Used by the channel owner whenever things get out of hand; they react by hurriedly shutting the game down altogether.
  • Sinister Silhouettes: The shadow figure never appears as more than a silhouette.
  • Stylistic Suck: The videos are deliberately done in the style of very old school Source Engine machinima, with sloppy stop-motion animation, low resolution and amateur use of Windows Movie Maker.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Trapped in a dark room with no exit? Confronted by sudden figures? Just shut the game down.
  • The Trickster: Bill. He's first introduced by poisoning Dr. Breen's drink in "breen gets pranked" and spends the rest of the "Bob and Bill" series being mischievous towards everyone, from Bob to Metrocops.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Bob and Bill, the protagonists of the channel owner's personal series, have this kind of relationship.
  • Wham Episode: "b3".
  • Wham Shot:
    • The player's encounter with the figure at the end of "gm_graveyard creepy secret room tutorial".
    • The player finding themselves trapped just like they trapped the figure beforehand in "b2".
  • Wreathed in Flames: The thing encountered at the end of "hl2-00000000".
