Tropes

  • Audience Participation: Fans could submit their ideas of items used to destroy the toys featured in the show no matter how ridiculous they are.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Jamie can be quite sassy with how the contestants try to break the items.
  • Didn't Think This Through: If a contestant gets to pick what they use from the warehouse to destroy the item, they could potentially pick something without considering how well it would actually work in their favor.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: The first few episodes had contestants exclusively destroying stress balls. Later episodes would have them trying to break other objects (although stress balls still appeared frequently).
  • No Fair Cheating: The products have to be broken using the given item. If broken without using your item, a penalty is invoked where the offenders have to wear the mitts of shame.
  • Rage Quit: It's not uncommon for the contestants to give up in frustration, especially when the tool they are given to break the target isn't getting them anywhere.
  • Running Gag:
    • Any item sold at the Vat19 website will first have its name said, followed by "At Vat19.com".
    • Kyle's habit of breaking the table in his attempts to break the object.
    • Any episode featuring Brendan, expect him to try and eat the pellets of the objects he destroys at least once.
  • Tempting Fate: If a contestant guesses what they get to destroy the target with being something extremely effective, more often than not, what they get is something that is obviously not going to be very effective at glace (if at all).
  • When All You Have Is a Hammer…: Each contestant is given one item to destroy the target object with. The results said item provides can vary.
