Bible Illustrated is a YouTube channel where the creator, Bojan Teodosijević, talks about Christianity from a Serbian Orthodox perspective. These videos are often accompanied by hand-drawn illustrations. His main channel can be found HERE, and he also has a second channel for extras, which can be found HERE. He has a third channel where he talks about film tropes, which can be found HERE.
His channel name comes from the fact that he has an off-channel project devoted to illustrating the entirety of The Bible. It is hosted on Blogspot HERE. A separate channel devoted to this specific project can be found HERE.
Bible Illustrated provides examples of these tropes:
- A God Am I: In "Jurisdiction Impersonations", Bojan imagines the Patriarch of Antioch wanting to call himself God of Gods, but decides that would be going too far. As a compromise, the Patriarch calls himself Master of the Universe.
- The Anti-Nihilist: Deconstructed in "My Thoughts on Atheism", where Bojan states that he considers atheism a bleak worldview due to the lack of meaning in the world.
- Awful Wedded Life: In "Differences Between Orthodox and Catholics", Bojan states that Orthodox priests are miserable because they are married and contrasts this with Catholic priests (and Orthodox monks), whom he states are miserable because they are celibate.
- Body Horror: In "Jurisdiction Impersonations 2", for Halloween, Bojan dressed up as a schism. This meant he drew himself cut in half down the middle.
- Berserk Button: Claiming that unbaptized children don't go to Heaven. In the video where he describes his anger at the Russian Orthodox Church adopting this stance, "Throwing Children into Hell", he opens by admitting that he is angry and cutting the happy music. He refers to George Yuri Maximov, the priest behind the changes, as "The Demon", "an Imbecile", and "The Hell Mouth", and portrays him as having a demon whispering into his ear. He ends the video by stating that, as far as he's concerned, people who believe that unbaptized children are barred from Heaven can go to Hell themselves.
- Christianity is Catholic: Averted. Bojan is a Serbian Orthodox, and his videos are from that perspective.
- Cosmic Horror Story: Bojan describes some hypothetical examples.
- In "Sacrificing Isaac: Was Abraham Insane?", if God demanded human sacrifice, then He would be "a cosmic leach that feeds off the world He has made".
- in "My Thoughts on Atheism", if God exists and he is evil then everybody goes to Hell upon death and suffering never ends.
- Devil in Disguise: There's one of these in "Terrible Advice for Lent ft. the Devil". He's disguised as Bojan.
- Distinction Without a Difference: The video "Differences Between Orthodox and Catholics" includes some examples:
- The Assumption of Mary is a dogma in the Catholic Church but not the Orthodox Church... "but everyone believes in it".
- Catholics believe in Purgatory while the Orthodox do not... but a lot of Orthodox Christians believe in Aerial Toll-Houses, which teaches that the soul of the deceased Christian must pass through some toll-houses staffed by demons. These demons try to damn the soul on account of his sins, while the angels escorting the soul argue in favor of his righteousness. Whether the Christian is taken to Heaven or Hell depends on the state of his soul at death and the intercessory prayers of the living.
- Catholics don't allow divorce, only annulments. Orthodox don't allow divorce... "and then they do".
- Eldritch Abomination / Humanoid Abomination: The Gnostic Icon of Jesus resembles one in "Icons of Heresy".
- Good Girls Avoid Abortion: Bojan considers abortion a sin, per the tenets of his Church.
- Herr Doktor: In "Wrath of God: Why God Doesn't Just Forgive?", Bojan uses two hospitals - one good and one bad - as a metaphor for why God felt the need to suffer and die to forgive mankind's sins. The doctor at the good hospital is one - complete with a thick accent, smoking pipe, skull on his desk, and Einstein Hair.
- Homophobic Hate Crime: When explaining who Steve Anderson is, one of the first things Bojan relays is that Anderson made videos calling for the execution of homosexuals and encouraging them to commit suicide.
- Human Sacrifice: In "Sacrificing Isaac: Was Abraham Insane? ", Bojan interprets this biblical scene as both God testing Abraham's faith and Abraham knowing that Isaac would not have to die (or that God would resurrect him) due to God's promise to Abraham of a nation of descendants. Bojan ends by stating that the near-sacrifice of Issac means that God doesn't need or want this trope.
- Insult to Rocks: In "My Thoughts on Jehovah's Witnesses", Bojan mentions that he's heard people equate Jehovah's Witnesses with Arians. He went on to say that he considers this comparison unfair to Arians.
- Hot for Preacher: In "Bad Reasons to Convert and Stay Orthodox", Bojan calls these people "Myr Bearers" and describes them as women (and, more rarely, men) who are in love with the Priest. If the priest at their church is a False Saint, then it leads to a cycle of ego-feeding and subservience.
- Karma Houdini: In "My Essential Thoughts", Bojan states that if God doesn't exist, then every villain who isn't punished in life becomes this.
- Laser-Guided Karma: The video "If God Were to Eliminate All Evil" includes a scene where Jesus throws a man into Hell for murdering ten people after torturing them. Near the end of this video, it is implied some of the damned man's victims were children.
- Messianic Archetype: Parodied and Exaggerated in "When Christians Write Fiction". In it, a hero character named Ichthys is handed over to a warlock who ties the hero to a suspiciously cross-shaped torture device, only for the "Redemption Protocol" to malfunction, killing the warlock with Ichthys. Three days later, Ichthys's friends break into the chamber, only to find Ichthys still alive ... "for he was God in the flesh, who died for our sins".Bojan: "You see, my children, if you liked this story, I must say you have been duped! For you see, this has been a Christian allegory all along!" *chuckle*
- Moral Guardians: In "Is D&D Satanic?", Bojan gives his two cents on Dungeons & Dragons and the controversy it gained in Christian circles. He argues that D&D isn't satanic at all, and that the antics of moral guardians ended up getting rid of crosses, one of the explicitly Christian parts of the game. D&D's magic system, Bojan points out, is very different from actual occult practices, and the Bible might actually have a worse effect (since the Witch of Endor's sorcery actually works).
- Necromancer: "Of Saints and Necromancers", Bojan explains how praying to saints is different from this trope.
- Pride: Bojan considers this a more dangerous sin than lust because it's harder for a prideful person to feel remorseful.
- Sinister Minister:
- In "Why I Didn't Pursue Priesthood", Bojan describes bishops as being a downplayed example of this trope and lists working for one as one of the reasons why he didn't become a priest. Near the end, he jokes that Episcopal consecration is the opposite of baptism.
- In "Jurisdiction Impersonations" and "Jurisdiction Impersonations 2", he makes fun of the patriarchs of the different Orthodox jurisdictions for behaving in petty ways.
- In "Bad Reasons to Convert and Stay Orthodox", there are three types of Orthodox Priests listed as this. He calls these three personalities "leeches"note , "False Saints"note , and "Disease Vectors"note . Bojan states the first two will go to Hell when they die, but that the third type can occasionally turn into a true saint.
- Take That!:
- In "The Gloater of Notre Dame", Bojan, at one point, states that some non-Orthodox beliefs are closer to the truth than others. On his 'Bar O' Orthodoxy', he places Herbalife closer to the evil half of the bar, Borborites at the farthest end of the evil half, and Scientology just has an arrow pointing past the end of the evil half of the bar.
- In "Steven Anderson and 'Mount Athos Exposed:' a Jenna Marbles Story", he calls Steve Anderson a "total independence Baptist pastor" and clarifies that this means Anderson achieved total independence from God. Later he draws a picture of Anderson winning a comedy award and dedicating it to Satan.
Anderson (as drawn by Bojan): "I dedicate this to him who transforms himself into an angel of light." note - Take That, Audience!: In "The 666th Subscriber Guilt Trip Special", he condemns his subscribers for making the subscribe number 666. The subscriber count ticks to 667 as he's speaking, and he ends his condemnation right there.
- Training from Hell: In "St. John of Damascus", St. John's spiritual father subjected him to this. He forbade him from doing anything of his free will, from pondering anything worldly to writing (among other things). He was so hard on St. John that the Mother of God herself intervened and told him to go easier on him.
- Troll: In "Atheism vs. Science", Bojan presents an argument against atheism in which he uses every negative stereotype about atheists. In "My Thoughts on Atheism vs. Science", he admits to trolling and proceeds to debunk every bad argument he presented in that video.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Another YouTuber made a video in response to Bojan's video criticizing atheism. Without mentioning the name, Bojan did criticize that YouTuber in "My Essential Thoughts", with one of the biggest complaints being that the other YouTuber intentionally removed a disclaimer asking his followers not to harass other channels.
