Awkward Puppets is an adult web series which airs on Youtube. Like its spiritual predecessor Avenue Q, it uses puppets which resemble those seen in children's shows and places them in adult situations.

Awkward Puppets includes examples of:

  • The Alcoholic: One of Diego's main personality traits is that he has an obsession with tequila.

  • Animate Inanimate Object: At one point, Diego has a dream in which he has a conversation with the moon.

  • Awful Wedded Life: Played for laughs. Diego hates being married to his wife Benita, but doesn't file for divorce because he's too lazy to do the paperwork.

  • Citizenship Marriage: In "Couples Therapy Episode 5", Maria confides with her therapist that she's only marrying Sam so she can get a green card. Of course, since Maria only speaks Spanish and Sam only speaks English, he's none the wiser... Until Sam reveals that he actually speaks fluent Spanish.

  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Early episodes would often have the characters lampshade the fact that they're all puppets, but this has mostly fallen by the wayside.

  • Everything Is Racist: A common source of comedy is characters accusing each other of being racist. At one point, a ghost accuses Diego of being racist for mistaking him for the Grim Reaper.

  • Funny Foreigner: Diego certainly qualifies; he's Mexican and while not all of the humor he provides is based on race, his love for tequila and his being mistaken for an illegal immigrant are running gags.

  • One-Steve Limit: Averted by Carl and Carl...who are identical twins, no less.

  • Overly Long Name: Diego's full name is Diego Raúl Gonzales Mateo Santiago Sebastián Lucas Benjamin Felipe Bruno Leonardo Joaquin Lorenzo Ignacio Rodrigo Simon Mendez Francisco Pabloblo Andres Juan Jose Emilio Isaac Bautista Esteban Raymundo Sergio Gabriel Sanchez Junior The Third. This is most likely why he usually refuses to answer when asked for his last name.

  • Subverted Rhyme Every Occasion: The aptly titled "Anticlimactic Rap" from "Music with Diego (Ep. 5)" features Diego setting up four rhymes to then subvert all of them.
