Trollge is a series of memes revolving around the character Trollface from Rage Comics but with a much Darker and Edgier tone. These memes usually take the form of "Trollge incidents", which are stories narrated in steps and taking a darker tone as the story goes on.
The Trollge memes provide examples of:
- Apocalypse How: A recurring theme, the scale varies as well.
- Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Some of the monsters can have enormous dimensions, with one of the most well-known examples probably being the Stiltman.
- Ax-Crazy: Trollface here is pretty much always this.
- Bittersweet Ending: The very few that end well tend to be this.
- Black Comedy: If there's any humor, it'll be very, very dark.
- Body Horror: Most incidents that involve Trollface or someone else transforming into a monster will always be grotesque, often involving body parts or flesh warping or ripping apart and/or growing extra organs.
- Breaking Old Trends: Of a sort. The Don't Look In The Mirror Incident is one of the few times the incident isn't directed towards Trollface. Instead, it focuses on Derpina after buying a mysterious mirror she can't stop looking at. Although a possible justification is that the incident is based off a short horror film of the same name.
- Cosmic Horror Story: Another recurring theme
- Darker and Edgier: No matter how, here Trollface will always be creepy in some way.
- Depending on the Writer: Trollface/Trollge's evilness varies. Some write them as completely Ax-Crazy while others are just unfortunate victims of circumstance. Also, sometimes Trollge and Trollface are the same person and sometimes they're different people.
- Downer Ending: Barely any of the incidents end in a good way, with the protagonists being turned into mindless monsters most of the time.
- Eldritch Abomination/Humanoid Abomination: Pretty much every incident contains one.
- The End of the World as We Know It: Another recurring theme.
- Gone Horribly Wrong: A number of Trollge incidents follow the classic "Troll Pranks" or "Troll Physics" formula before going terribly awry.
- Gone Horribly Right: On the other hand, plenty of Trollge incidents read more like some sort of occult ritual, and end with Trollface willingly transforming himself into an Eldritch Abomination or sicking some terrible disaster on the world.
- Humans Are the Real Monsters: Sometimes this will pop up every now and then, being a sole reason for revenge. Especially most prominent with the Nature's Corruption series.
- Insane Troll Logic: A recurring theme.
- Knight of Cerebus: Arguably The Trollges could be seen as this for the original Rage Comics, played almost completely for Horror and/or Drama
- Mad Libs Thriller Title: The incidents are named this way.
- Mind Screw: Some of the incidents are built like this.
- Surreal Horror: As bizarre and confusing as the actual rage comics, but is absolutely terrifying instead.
- Tragic Monster: Some Trollges might have unwillingly been turned into monsters without knowing it. The best known example is the Trollge from The Lone World Incident.
- Villain Protagonist: In most of the incidents the protagonist is Driven to Madness and/or becomes a monster.
- Was Once a Man: Most of the monsters were once normal people who went through a transformation due to various reasons.
