Serpamia Flare is a fantasy webcomic created by rufiangel. The comic starts with the coincidental meeting between Kylie, a cool knight, and Cain, a hapless cleric. They strike up a partnership to get through a monster-filled cave together, and the story follows their journeys from there. Early character concepts and the first half or so of Chapter One was published onto DeviantArt in 2003, but the strip went into hiatus several years later. It was picked up again in 2013 with a regular update schedule and has continued well past Chapter One since.
Serpamia Flare provides examples of:
- Alt Text: The pages have humorous mouseover text, even in some of the darkest parts.
- Ballroom Blitz: In Chapter Three, the Grand Oasis Ball in Lari Oasis puts the party in the position of wearing fancy-dress while simultaneously fending off a group of Danrir rebels from assassinating the area's leader and obtaining a mysterious item.
- Beat Panel: The sixth panel of the page where a couple walk in on Kylie trying to get Cain to wear an earring.
- Cain and Abel: Cain, the party's white mage, has a brother called Abel. Naturally, Cain envies Abel, and makes an attempt on his life, resulting Abel giving him the chain curse.
- Calling Your Attacks: The names of spells and Lethian abilities are called when they're cast.
- The Cameo: A few in the Spherea Falls marketplace, including characters from the fellow Comicfury comics Silver and Abby Normal, as well as Mako and Bolin from The Legend of Korra.
- Cat Girl: Nemi is a Kijini, a race of cat-eared and cat-tailed people.
- Color-Coded Wizardry: So far, we've seen that White Magic is healing and various blessings, while green magic is summoning, and Abel has the rare title of Silver Mage, although what that means has yet to be explained.
- Cool Sword: Kylie's weapon of choice is a broad-bladed sword.
- Couldn't Find a Pen: The message to Cain on the wall of Cursebreaker Alvonce's home is written in blood.
- Cover Innocent Eyes and Ears: When Cain's bathrobe shows a little too much in the Hot Springs Episode, Nemi is denied the view.
- Cruel and Unusual Death: Seia's apparent death. A poison gas and a few fire attacks are one thing, but then the poison gas gets set on fire once it's in their system, and they burn from the inside out.
- Dark and Troubled Past: Kylie and Cain both exhibit plenty of signs of having had a traumatic episode in their pasts. Kylie's was when she had an Lethiace Control Failure and wiped out her hometown, and Cain's was when he tried to kill his brother and got the chain curse as a result.
- Eye Take: A few when Cain's coat is stolen by a baby coco, from Cain's reaction to it to the rest of the group staring at him when his bathrobe shows a little too much of him.
- Fourth-Wall Mail Slot: Between chapters, the characters will often answer questions posed to them in the comments.
- Hot Springs Episode: Starts on this page.
- An Ice Person: Kylie and Seia are ice Lethians, and therefore get various ice powers. As it turns out, they're the only two left.
- Katanas Are Just Better: Rince's weapon of choice is a katana.
- The Leader: Kylie directs the group, although her leading style often clashes with Cain.
- Mana Potion: Mana grapes are used for this purpose. Interestingly enough, the only person seen carrying them is Kylie, who doesn't use mana.
- Mark of Shame: For trying to kill his brother, Cain was branded, and thereby marked as banished.
- Modesty Towel: Kylie's garb when she first meets Cain.
- Never Accepted in His Hometown: Cain reveals in Chapter Three that he bears the mark of banishment from the Holy Capital.
- Older Than They Look: Seia, Kylie's mentor introduced in Chapter Three, looks not much older than the average party age but is actually ten years older than Kylie.
- Pinned to the Wall: In Kylie's first fight with Sho, she gets pinned to the wall by Sho's sai.
- Playing with Fire: Rince uses fire Lethiace, and Madou specializes in fire magic.
- Power Nullifier: Sho used an anti-mana seal in his first fight with Kylie and Cain.
- Revive Kills Zombie: Referenced when Cain tries to attack a batmole with a healing spell because he thinks it's undead, and demonstrated when he uses a healing spell to destroy a skeleton monster.
- Speed Blitz: Nemi's agility stat is extremely high, and is evident in combat when attacking the Shrewters in Chapter Two, and also throughout her minor skirmishes with Danrir rebels and Sho in Chapter Three.
- Weapons of Their Trade: Michael's weapon is a hammer, likely because it can also be used to craft seals.
