The Smash Cinematic Universe, also abbreviated the SCU, is a series of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Machinimas by the YouTube creator Slick Ricky Gaming.

The series is a collection of intertwined stories taking place in the Super Smash Bros. universe, and feature the various characters going on adventures with each other. Originally starting as a series of comedic skits featuring Sora joking with Cloud and Sephiroth, the series expanded to include more dramatic elements and an overarching narrative that introduces more and more characters from the roster as it goes along.

Tropes presented in the series:

  • Adaptational Jerkass: Steve is a cynical troublemaker who tricks/convinces Sora to do bad things, and then tries to bail and leave him to deal with the fallout.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy:
    • Sephiroth, despite still being cold and menacing, shows a genuine soft side for Pichu, and the two become friends. When Pichu goes missing, Sephiroth teams up with others and goes through great lengths to find and protect his little friend.
    • Gannondorf, though still a dark warlock, is shown to be wise and thoughtful, and offers Sora shelter and some genuine advice when Sora is confused or distraught. Though he still has a love for fighting and violence, Gannondorf seems to only direct it at those who have personally wronged him and shows little ill-will for anyone else.
  • Adaptational Villainy:
    • Dr. Mario, though initially appearing as little more than a cynical medical caregiver, is the ultimate evil of the franchise, being the one responsible for the Piranha Plants and revealed to have decimated his home dimension all for the goal of removing famous and popular characters so all others are forced to be equal. Taking advantage of Kirby being under his control, he forced him to kill his own child, spread shrooms and get various people addicted to them, and attempt to kill Sora.
    • The Piranha Plants prove to be far more dangerous and evil than their original canon. Here, they are portrayed as a walking plague that poison and incapacitate the populace.
    • Pikachu, while initially just a cynical snarker that allies himself with Sephiroth, betrays him after hearing Dr. Mario’s plans, choosing instead to ally with the doctor.
    • Hero is portrayed as a wrathful egotist, set on being the best and willing to take revenge on anyone who annoys or upstages him, to the point where even the episode titles begin referring to him as "Hero". Made worse when he joins forces with Dr. Mario.
    • Downplayed with Sans, who is far more menacing than he was in his original canon, being a soul-stealing guardian of the underworld and working for a shady boss. Despite this, he proves to be Affably Evil and still a Pungeon Master, who is willing to let wayward souls go if they can make him laugh.
  • Ambiguous Gender: Yoshi is unknown whether its male or female, and has been referred to as both a "mother" and "father".
  • Death of a Child: Kirby murders his and Yoshi's child. It is later revealed he was under Dr. Mario's control.
  • Drugs Are Bad: Various characters are hooked on mushrooms, and Mario goes out of his way to try to help Little Mac fight his addiction. Captain Falcon has a whole PSA about the dangers of the drug.
  • Heroic BSoD: Sora gets this after the reveal that Kirby killed his son and tried to kill him. He later begins to heal when Kirby saves him from a Piranha Plant. He has yet to figure out that Kirby was being controlled against his will.
  • Intelligible Unintelligible: Though Kirby never speaks or so much as makes a sound, apparently all the other characters can hear him talking and understand him perfectly.
  • Magic Mushroom: A common drug and psychoactive in the series. Various characters are hooked (with some trying to get clean).
  • Mood Whiplash:
    • Kirby killing his and Yoshi's child is a surprising out-of-nowhere death that creates lasting consequences. When Sora finds out about the murder, Kirby attempts to kill him too, resulting in the otherwise happy-go-lucky and optimistic Sora getting Heroic BSoD and losing his trust in people. It gets darker when it is revealed that Kirby was under Dr. Mario's control and was forced to do it against his will.
    • The reveal that Dr. Mario is the ultimate evil of the series. He attacks Cloud and Kazuya, and later tests one of his experimental weapons on Cloud.
  • Public Service Announcement: Captain Falcon has an entire episode showing the dangers of mushrooms.
  • Pungeon Master:
    • This is Sora's favorite mode of humor.
    • Sans, as usual, makes a ton of puns. A skele-ton.
  • Straight Man: Mario and Luigi, who are the most no-nonsense members of the cast and the ones most often trying to keep everything together.
  • Turtle Island: The Great Turtle of the Sea, originally from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, has a small island on his shell, complete with a tree.
  • Uncanny Family Resemblance: Mario shares an identical appearance and voice with his cousin, Dr. Mario. Lampshaded by Sora when he mentions that he is unable to tell who is talking.
  • Wise Old Turtle: The Great Turtle of the Sea is an ancient and wise being that keeps the world's order in check, and gives advice and quests to the various characters who stumble across him. He seems to be the only one truly aware of the overaching threat.
  • Would Hurt a Child:
    • Sora, despite being a magical warrior, is still a young teenager, so the other fighters who take him on aren't concerned with his age.
    • Kirby, under Dr. Mario's control as a side effect of eating Dr. Mario's Piranha Plants, is forced to kill his and Yoshi's child just to Dr. Mario can test the limits of his control.
