The Late Ringer
is a Team Fortress 2 Machinima released in 2018 by hellhounds04. In it, a RED Pyro witnesses the massacre of their team by the BLU Team, but thanks to the RED Spy giving them his Dead Ringer, Pyro survives. And now, they want revenge.
Due to the plot twist in the ending, all spoilers will be unmarked. You Have Been Warned.
- Adaptational Nice Guy: The RED Spy bequeaths his Dead Ringer to the Pyro so they can live, something he'd probably never do of his own volition in canon.
- Action Girl: The RED Pyro.
- Bloodier and Gorier: TF2's no slouch in the gore department, but it's mostly played for dark laughs with Bloody Hilarious and Amusing Injuries in full force. Not so much here, where the gore is played much more realistically (well as realistic as TF2's cartoony artstyle can get, anyway).
- Cruel and Unusual Death: All of the BLU Team bar their Pyro end up dying pretty horribly (owing to the fact that they were killed by a Pyro), but particular note goes to Heavy (who gets decapitated by a fire axe), Medic (who gets blown up by a deflected crocket) and Engineer (who gets gored with his own Gunslinger).
- Eye Scream: Pyro dispatches Soldier by gouging out his eyes with her thumbs.
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: The entire short is one.
- Shout-Out:
- The BLU Heavy’s design is a reference to The RED Heavy’s in Rise of The Epic Scout.
- The BLU Pyro’s design and weapon is a reference to The RED Pyro in Ghosts Of The Past.
- Unsettling Gender-Reveal: Soldier is stunned when he rips off Pyro's mask during the climax and discovers that they're actually a woman. It ends up inadvertently causing his own demise, as he hesitates and winds up giving Pyro an opening to kill him.
- Would Hit a Girl: The entire (male members of the) BLU team. Played With as none of them sans BLU Soldier at the end knew that the RED Pyro was a girl.
