Shishihara -Looks can be deceiving- (女子力高めな獅子原くん, Joshiryoku Takamena Shishihara-kun, "Highly Girly Shishihara-kun" in Japanese) is a YouTube Slice of Life animation channel. It is about Sota Shishihara, a feminine-looking boy who enjoys cooking and his childhood friend Yurika Mito who is a tomboy and is athletic. The English channel can be found here. The channel is an Animated Adaptation of the manga Ultra-Fem Shishihara-kun, which was illustrated by Mii Amai.

Shishihara contains examples of:

  • Bad People Abuse Animals: Some delinquents torment a puppy named Koro. When Shishihara saw them, he got very mad at them and he gave the bullies a good scare.
  • Banana Peel: Tasao attempts to do this trick to Sota, he does step on the banana peel, however, he manages to avert the fall by performing a somersault and lands safely.
  • Beach Episode: One episode involves Sota and Yurika going to a beach.
  • The B Grade: Tsutomu is always second place to Sota who gets a 100% in his tests while he only got 90s. This made him so jealous that he made a cheat sheet to frame Sota.
  • Berserk Button: Sota really doesn't like it when people comment on his height.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Sota is a friendly boy, but if someone rubs him the wrong way, that person is going to be in pain for a while.
  • The Bully: Shuto bullies many people in the football team and brags about his supposed past as a leader of a delinquent gang to them so he can threaten them to do what he wants. His luck runs out when he runs into Sota and Yurika.
  • Formerly Fat: Futoshi was fat and was bullied for it. After he changed his diet and began to exercise thanks to Yurika and Sota, he lost the weight.
  • Hopeless with Tech: Yurika is so bad with computers that the teacher had to teach her how to use one. She accidentally displayed photos of the teacher's daughter when playing a PowerPoint presentation on his laptop.
  • Impersonating an Officer: A criminal named Sumashi Narino wears a police uniform in an attempt to silence Sota after he saw him accidentally dropping some "package" which is suspected to be drugs. A real police officer who recognizes Sota stops for a while to talk with him and also warns Sumashi about Sota's past as a delinquent. Unfortunately, he ignores the officer's warning and calls Sota short, causing himself to be intimidated by the former delinquent. He decides to turn himself in due to Sota's intimidation and he tells the same police officer about the stuff he dropped earlier which turns out to be some candy he stole from a store.
  • Insult Friendly Fire: Ms. Jogasaki tries to insult Sota by claiming that he was creeping her out, just because he was using a lip balm at school. At the same time, she doesn't realize that the insult was also directed to the principal as he was also using a lip balm.
  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: Sota looks feminine and does feminine things such as cooking, sewing etc. However he can still get into fights.
  • Japanese Delinquents:
    • Sota was a delinquent before entering high school however that does not mean that he can be pushed around.
    • A wannabe delinquent named Kitsune pretends to be Sota so he can intimidate people and extort them of their money. It eventually backfires when he tries to intimidate the real Sota and claims to be Sota in front of him, he also calls Sota a midget, causing him to snap and punch Kitsune in the stomach.
    • Shuto claims to be a former leader of a delinquent gang and uses it to bully people in the football team. He is later revealed to be full of crap when Sota scares him off after he stole and trashed Yurika's oranges.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Yoshihiko appeared to be bullying little kids for trying to play on the swing. When Sota and Yurika confronted him, Yoshihiko revealed that he used to play with his little brother, Yoshiaki. One day Yoshiaki jumped from the swing but he ended up hurting himself and that's why he was trying to prevent the kids from playing with the swings. After Sota and Yurika got the kids to promise to be safe while swinging, Yoshihiko decided to allow them to play with the swings.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: In one episode, Tasao uses the opportunity to exploit Sota's love of cats to make him late for school.
  • Lethal Chef: Yurika is so bad at cooking, it makes everything she cooks explodes, leaving nothing but smoke behind.
  • Limited Animation: Being a series on YouTube, the animation is simplistic.
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Sota is a feminine boy and does traditionally feminine things, while Yurika is his athletic childhood friend and isn't as good in feminine things such as cooking.
  • Movie-Theater Episode: One story has Sota and Yurika go to the movie theater, but there are two badly-behaved guests. One kept giving spoilers for the movie and was being loud in general while the other uses his phone, which brightened the theater. Sota eventually got fed up and threw them over, causing them to be kicked out. They later apologized and the two guys became friends.
  • Never My Fault: A housewife blames Sota and Yurika for causing her son to cry after eating one of the meat loafs she stole from the former, while also ignoring Sota's reason why he couldn't give her son any of them.
  • New Transfer Student: There is a student named Belladonna-Lily Tanaka who transferred to Sota and Yurika's classroom.
  • Obnoxious Entitled Housewife: A housewife forces Sota to give her son one of his meat loafs, but he can't give it to him because he added some "special touch" to them and he also intented to give them to Yurika. When Sota and Yurika left their food for a while, they find out that the former's lunchbox have been stolen by the housewife. She later returns to complain about the meat loafs she stole from Sota because her son started to cry after eating it. Sota reveals the meat loafs were filled with Jalapenos to prevent summer fatigue. The housewife's husband hears everything regarding the incident and apologizes to them while also scolding her for stealing their food.
  • Raised as the Opposite Gender: Haru was raised as a boy by her mother and often mistaken for one due to her masculine appearance. Haru's mother tells the duo and Haru the reason she raised her as a boy, she doesn't want her to experience the same fate as her aunt, who was stalked by a man for being beautiful and she eventually lost her mind and locked herself in a room because of the stalker. Haru's mother eventually stops treating her like a boy after Sota and Yurika begged her.
  • Rescue Romance: A girl named Reika ends up liking Sota because he saved her from drowning. Her ex-boyfriend ends up saving her from committing suicide after she was rejected by Sota, they later become together again.
  • Sadist Teacher: Ms. Jogasaki is infamously known for being overly strict, she sucks up to the principal and other teachers while also picking on students, and she often confiscates makeup from several students only to use them for herself. She even tries to get Sota and Yurika expelled just because of an arguement over a lip balm.
  • Stern Teacher: Tasao is a math teacher who is infamous for being overly strict to his students, he also punishes anyone who is late even for one second by shaving their hair. He develops a personal grudge on Sota for being a popular student in the class, so he uses several tricks to make him late and shave his hair. He eventually changes his way after being called out by Sota.
  • Stalker with a Crush:
    • Kurao, a shut-in who stalks Yurika and also plants a bug inside her and Sota's classroom to listen to her "angelic" voice all day long. It's later revealed he was actually stalking Sota, supported by the fact when he accidentally dropped several photos of him when he tried to escape from him.
    • Haru's aunt was stalked by a man for being beautiful, causing her mother to raise her as a boy so she wouldn't experience the same thing like her aunt.
  • Super Drowning Skills: Despite being athletic, Yurika can't swim, this is evident when she tries to save someone from drowning, but ends up drowning as well until Sota rescues them.
  • Supreme Chef: Sota can cook pretty much everything due to his passion for feminine things.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Sandwich: An online influencer Rumi left her frappuchino after she took a picture of it and sent it to her socials.
  • Unfortunate Names: Belladonna-Lily, the new transfer student, her name is derived from a flower named Amaryllis belladonna, but Sota reveals that the flower has another name called "Naked Lady," much to her embarrassment.
