Pokémon Battle Royale is a battle simulation collaborated by Jeremy Chinshue and Lockstin from Gnoggin. Excluding Legendary and Mythical Pokémon, all of them are sent out into an island at once to see which one will come out victorious, using data from their Pokédex entries and other sources of information, such as their base stats or different media, such as the anime. Multiple sequels would later follow with different sub-groups of Pokémon.

You can watch the original video here, and Lockstin's commentary here.

Episodes

  1. Pokémon Battle Royale
  2. Legendary & Mythical Pokémon Battle Royale (All Pokémon foretold in legends and myths duke out on one another.)
  3. Baby Pokémon Battle Royale (All baby Pokémon duke it out in the backyard of a Pokémon Day Care.)
  4. Mega Pokémon Battle Royale (All Mega Evolution formsnote  fighting it out)
  5. Gigantamax Pokémon Battle Royale (All participants are Pokémon with Gigantamax forms.)
  6. Pokémon Battle Royale: ULTRA BEASTS! (All the Ultra Beasts fight each other.)
  7. Starter Pokemon Battle Royale (Featuring all starter Pokemon and their evolutions across the gamesnote .)

Also, credit to getting Professor Oak's actual voice actor to say some lines.

  • Action Bomb: Magcargo, who explodes upon being released by Oranguru.
  • Adaptational Badass: All of the Pokémon have their Pokédex entries taken literally, meaning several typically unassuming Pokémon get a lot more mileage than they should; the most blatant example is Magcargo, who single-handedly brings down the amount of surviving Pokémon into the single digits (and according to the percentages at the end, outright wins some (unshown) iterations of the simulation). note
  • All There in the Manual: Lockstin's videos go into a lot more detail on the subject matter than the animations do.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Dusclops becomes giant by consuming the black holes generated by Gardevoir, growing to the size of a tall building after devouring one, then towering over the entire city.
  • Badass Family: Dusclops and Dusknoir end up being two of the best Pokémon in the simulation, with Dusclops requiring a Magcargo to take it down and Dusknoir placing in the top 3.
  • Barrier Warrior: Mr. Mime. He survives Magcargo's blast by setting a force-field around itself, then uses another to try and protect itself from the Ghost-types. The second time doesn't work (Gengar just shadow-warps right through the barrier).
  • The Cameo: While Igglybuff gets scared by Glalie, Gitaroo Man is seen chasing after Flying-O in the background.
  • Counter-Attack: When Magcargo's Explosion reaches Wobbuffet, it uses Mirror Coat as its last move, which causes another explosion that blasts Magcargo off the island.
  • Curse Cut Short: A strange example. Jeremy's videos tend to have minimal dialogue, with the little dialogue there is usually being provided by himself, various memes, and a few other Internet personalities such as David Casanova. And of this, there is no swearing. When Magcargo is sent out, Jeremy uses the "WTF BOOM" Stock Sound Effect, which is a Curse Cut Short in itself to drive the point home. But the short "fu-" at the end is cut off.
  • Cuteness Proximity: After launching Tyranitar into the horizon, Machamp goes face to face with Arcanine, but can't help but be overcome with cuteness when the latter barks. This gives Arcanine the opportunity to use Fire Blast, which cuts Machamp into several pieces as he screams "Oh no!" à la Terry Crews.
  • Dung Fu: Turtonator, in true fashion, shits on Chesnaught's Spiky Shield, and the poop then explodes. The unfazed and now mildly annoyed Chesnaught calls out a cry of "Disgustang!" in reply.
  • Fantastic Nuke: Created by a shiny Magcargo being sent out. And then a Wobbuffet counters it.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: During the part where Gardevoir sucks up a bunch of Pokémon into a black hole, Cubone is seen trying to keep its mother's skull on its head. When the skull flies off, its face is revealed to be Missingno.
  • Funny Background Event:
    • When Electivire sees Wailord floating up in the sky, a Kecleon can be seen running around, disguised as foliage.
    • When Slurpuff is sniffing at the stench of Garbodor and Muk, a Spoink collapses the moment it stops bouncing.
    • As Glalie initiates an ice raid, Alakazam blows the heads off Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan upon a rooftop. Right before it shows up, a Slime can be seen.
    • When Chesnaught is defending against Turtonator's attack, a Simisear picks a Honedge up only to have its life force sucked out. The Honedge then drags it off as Blastoise appears on the scene.
  • Giant Equals Invincible:
    • The gigantic Tyranitar is unfazed by other smaller Pokémon trying to attack it, and even Machamp doesn't actually hurt it, he just launches it into the horizon.
    • Averted by the giant Dusclops, who is vaporized by the shockwave caused by Magcargo's release.
  • Hyper-Destructive Bouncing Ball: Igglybuff's body is said to never stop bouncing when set in motion. Ever. So naturally, when knocked off a building by Glalie, by bouncing around 4 buildings, Igglybuff somehow gains enough energy to bounce into SPACE and knock a stray satellite down to earth, which then hits Metang.
  • Kiss of Death: Muk smooches Cacturne, causing it to explode after a while.
  • Linear Warriors, Quadratic Wizards: Both played straight and subverted, since, while some of the longest-lasting are elementals (like Camerupt), Squishy Wizard types (like Gardevoir, being able to throw black holes, and Alakazam being able to wait out everything in the upper atmosphere), and Ghost Pokémon, warriors in the group have also had very good showings (such as Machamp with its Super-Strength, and Tyranitar with it being Nigh-Invulnerable), and ultimately ends in a Darkhorse Victory with Magikarp taking second, and Ditto taking first).
  • Literally Shattered Lives:
    • When Glalie covers a city with Ice Beam, a frozen Squirtle fell over and breaks into pieces.
    • Muk is also frozen solid by Glalie and punched into bits by Jynx.
  • Master of All: As opposed to being a Master of None Quirky Bard used as a Breeding Machine in the games, it was reasoned Ditto could win because, since it could transform into every other one, through using it as a Stance System, it combines all the strengths of all other Pokémon.
  • Medium-Shift Gag: Magikarp and Machamp are depicted using their sprites from Pokémon Yellow when the camera pulls back to show Magikarp jumping over a mountain.
  • Mêlée à Trois: Infernape, Samurott, and Decidueye stand off between one another, though the latter is knocked out fast when it can't hit either competitor with its arrows.
  • Mutual Kill:
    • Blastoise manages to get off one shot of Hydro Pump at Charizard before dying to its face-melting Flamethrower.
    • Wobbuffet is able to successfully counter Magcargo, but it isn't able to survive the initial blast.
  • No-Sell:
    • Metang survives getting hit by a stray satellite without so much as a scratch.
    • Chesnaught avoids getting blown up by Delibird and Turtonator's attacks by using Spiny Shield.
    • Tyranitar is shown to be unaffected by attacks from other Pokémon, still continuing to throw mountains around. At most, it's eliminated by Machamp punching it away.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Decidueye's reaction to Samurott and Infernape parrying its barrage of arrows is half this, half Flat "What".
    • Every Pokémon reacts this way to the Magcargo shockwave.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: Magcargo is this the moment it's sent out, to the point that the only potential winners of the battle royale are those who found a way to avoid it.
  • Pre-Asskicking One-Liner: After punching Absol off the island, Machamp delivers one before doing the same to several Pokémon.
Machamp: It's showtime! (punches 37 more Pokémon off the island)
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: As a Shout-Out to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Machamp eliminates Tyranitar by launching a flurry of punches punctuated by him screaming "Oraoraoraora!", then unleashing a final punch that launches Tyranitar into the horizon.
  • Rule of Funny: There is no reason for Magikarp to leap up long enough for almost every Pokemon to die, conveniently bludgeon Alakazam and Dusknoir (who both happen to be its path), and almost win in the simulation, but it's still an amusing sight to see - and of course, Ditto could've won through more conventional means than copying Magikarp, but again, it's still funny.
  • Scissors Cuts Rock:
    • Blastoise manages to blast through the Water-resistant Chesnaught's shields through raw power alone.
    • Charizard's flames are so hot that they manage to kill and melt the supposedly Fire-resistant Blastoise (but not before Blastoise shoots down Charizard with a Hydro Pump whilst dying)
    • Likewise, Samurott meets its end via Infernape's flames and is cited to lose due to the latter's superior speed.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here:
    • Wobbuffet's tail detaches and zooms away as the shockwave from Magcargo approaches.
    • Alakazam teleports into space when it sees that the remaining Pokémon are being decimated by Ghost-types Dusknoir and Gengar.
Alakazam: (to Mr. Mime) Good luck!
  • Shock and Awe: Demonstrated with Electivire in two ways:
    • It is first seen electrocuting the Brionne it grasps.
    • Upon seeing a huge Wailord floating above, it calls forth a thunderstorm, not only disintegrating all the flying Pokémon on the Wailord, as well as the Wailord itself, but also killing all aquatic Pokémon (as well as Undyne) around the island.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Agumon is visible when the Pokémon are being sent out.
    • Clouds shaped like Cloud Strife and Mallow appear.
    • Undyne is among the water Pokémon that get killed by the thunderstorm.
    • Slurpuff uses the same odd squeal Bobby from King of the Hill makes when he attempts to surprise whomever may be in his bedroom as it faints from Muk's atrocious stench.
    • Yamask is seen carrying the face of Satan from The Adventures of Mark Twain.
    • Michelangelo closes a manhole lid as Igglybuff bounces toward it.
    • Tyranitar is launched off the island by Machamp rapid-fire punching it while shouting "ORAORAORA". A snippet of Jotaro's theme even plays while it does so.
    • Machamp suffers Cuteness Overload from Arcanine barking like Gabe the Dog.
    • Dusclops uses the sound Kirby makes when devouring enemies as it eats Gardevoir and its black holes.
  • Shown Their Work: All the Pokémon Battle Royale episodes explicitly include Pokémon performing feats referenced in a variety of Pokédex entries. Oranguru throwing Poké Balls, Gardevoir creating black holes, and Magikarp being able to vault over a mountain are all things they're said to be capable of in one game or another.
  • Stock Scream: Meowth utters the famous "OH MY GOOOOOOOD!" from Troll 2 when it sees Garbodor being dissolved by Muk.
  • Take That!:
  • Teleport Spam: Alakazam uses Teleport to escape from danger many times, only getting knocked out when it isn't aware of being in the way of Magikarp's landing until it's too late.
  • Tempting Fate: Magikarp exclaims that it wins when there seems to not be anyone left, only to be knocked into the screen by Ditto, who transformed into it earlier and copied its tactics.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: As soon as it's let out, Absol starts panicking, with its foresight of disaster alerting it that the fight is gonna be bloody.
  • Throw Down the Bomblet: Delibird pulls a random Bob-omb from its tail and throws it at Chesnaught, who then proceeds to No-Sell both it and Turtonator's exploding dung.
  • Touch of Death: Muk causes Sunflora to rot after laying its hand on it. It also makes Cacturne explode by kissing it.
  • Visible Odor: Garbodor's, to show what Slurpuff sniffed at before getting knocked out.
  • Visual Pun: Muk is seen ranting on a Twitter feed before being frozen solid, and the screen said "MUK used Toxic!". It was being toxic.
  • Wins by Doing Absolutely Nothing: Narrowly averted, Alakazam would've waited it out in the upper atmosphere, but got killed by a Magikarp falling back to the Earth like a meteor. Played straight with Magikarp, then Ditto, though, since Magikarp leaping high into the air allowed it to dodge the whole thing, and Ditto turning into Magikarp and doing the same slightly later gets it the win.
  • Your Head A-Splode: Alakazam kills Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan by using psychic powers to blow their heads up.
