Alex, Spider, Inkura and their many friends

Since the creation of Garry's Mod, some people have took the opportunity to create all sorts of animations of various quality. Some were made just for the laughs, while there are those able to showcase what Garry's Mod is capable of in the hands of a talented animator.

And then, there's Alex Spider...

Alex Spider is a comedy YouTube Machinima series, animated in Garry's Mod in the similar vein to Supermarioglitchy4's Super Mario 64 Bloopers. While that series focused more on dramedy and quite often parodies today's internet trends and memes, Alex Spider dials up the comedy up to eleven with the emphasis on non-stop slapstick comedy, explosions, and action-packed scenes that wouldn't look out of place in a shounen anime.

The series chronicles on the many (mis)adventures of its main protagonists: Alex Spider, the hardcore human mercenary; Spider, Alex's Inkling counterpart; and Inkura, Spider's other Inkling companion and the newest Agent of the New Squidbeak Splatoon. Naturally, being a GMOD machinima, they are usually joined by a plethora of characters, ranging from characters from other franchises, primarily from Team Fortress 2 and the Splatoon series, all the way to collaborations with other Original Generation characters from other channels (one of such collaborations is with the aforementioned SMG4).

The series contains the following tropes:

     General
  • Adaptational Heroism: Roxy pulls a Heel–Face Turn when believing Gregory was a fan of her's. Later on, the rest of the Glamrocks have a Heel–Face Turn after Gregory helps repair them.
  • Adaptational Villainy: SMG4 and his gang in Alex Spider VS SMG4: Star Wars - The Meme Empire are portrayed as an evil Empire out to give Alex and his crew memes for their own benefit.
  • Action Girl: Many. Special mention goes to Inkura, Spider's other Inkling friend, who is also a member of the Squidbeak Splatoon, as well as Niyaka, Inkura's Ninjala counterpart.
  • Aside Glance: Inkura pulls this complete with V-sign, smile, and wink in Squid-Nanigans 2.
  • Ass Shove: In Splatoon VS Ninjala, Ron throws three Drill Beasts, taking out 3 Inklings at once. One of them gets it where it hurts.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: Inko is like Inkura; naïve & funny…but when he's a nightmare when he’s combat-ready.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: In Splatoon VS Ninjala, in response to Spider asking "Why is Meggy here?", Ralph Skipper replies "You just feature her in your videos" and then both of them look straight at the camera.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Fall Guys Among Us; Aliens in Space ends with all the aliens taken care of... only for the Xenomorph's acid blood to ruin the engine.
  • Bring My Brown Pants: Inkura has more than once crapped herself upon becoming scared. (being an Inkling it's ink rather than normal human waste)
  • Camera Abuse: At the end of FNF animation 3D cartoon but Huggy wuggy Baldi and FNAF and creepypasta are all in it, Girlfriend punches the camera, knocking the cameraman off his feet & causing the camera to cut out.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • Inkura vs Green-Yellow in Squid-nanigans 2.
    • Master Hand easily demolishes the military with the power of the stones at his fingertips in Master Hand Snaps Fingers.
    • Ninjala's cast effortlessly destroys Splatoon's Inklings in Splatoon VS Ninjala. The Inklings return the favor by defeating the ninjas with their combat prowess in the final battle.
    • Hilariously parodied in Tari and the Infinity Gauntlet when Tari uses the Gauntlet to blast three of Spider's friends into a wall (including Alex) and horrifies Spider by teleporting him high in the air, making him fall to his death.
    • Skid & Pump give two in FNF animation 3D cartoon but Huggy wuggy Baldi and FNAF and creepypasta are all in it: first them vs Monster, & then them vs the Tails Doll, both times by Pump picking up the enemy in question & body-slamming them against the ground.
  • Curse Cut Short: Cyber Gang Scout in Inkura and Niyaka in Cyberpunk 2077 feat. John Wick when he sees Inkura about to fire her multitude of weapons.
    Cyber Gang Scout: HOLY FU-(boom)
  • Distracted by the Sexy: One of the guards guarding the castle in Daily Shantae 2 is moved from his post by Shantae attracting him with her looks. He gets knocked out by her for his trouble.
  • Groin Attack: Done quite often, usually by the girls. Spider himself is the victim of many of these.
  • Here We Go Again!: At the end of Alex Spider VS SMG4: Star Wars - The Meme Empire, just after they defeated SMG4's Star Destroyer, another one holding Kylo Ren shows up to attack them.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: The fate of 2 (out of 3) Inklings battling Ron in Splatoon VS Ninjala when he throws 3 Drill Beasts at once. The final one gets it even worse.
  • More Dakka: Quite a few characters were as trigger-happy as the very Inklings joining them later on, with Alex and Spider being the prominent examples.
  • My Little Panzer: The Fazblaster is even more so here than in the source game. While it still is used for stunning bots by zapping their eyes, it can inflict actual pain. Supercharging it with a recharge device can physically blow back an animatronic out cold without needing eye contact. It's also useful for Groin Attacks.
  • Potty Emergency: The whole plot of Inkura's Situation has Inkura urgently needing the toilet to relieve herself, only to be denied a toilet while Spider has to deal with red Inklings.
  • Running Gag:
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After Master Hand makes two tanks blow up in Master Hand Snaps Fingers, the third says "Nope!" and retreats.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The entirety of Squid-nanigans 2 is full of these.
    • Gregory on the Loose has a reference to Markiplier's incident with Freddy running past him.
    Gregory: FREDDY YOU BITCH! FREDDYYY!
  • Suddenly Voiced: Inkura in Daily Shantae, thanks to the titular character, though it doesn't last beyond that video.

     Inkura's Inkventure
  • Origins Episode: Inkura's Inkventure: First Mission explains how she became a new Agent of the New Squidbeak Splatoon, as well as how she met Spider.

     The Day of the Spider
  • Darker and Edgier: Pretty much the whole deal with TDOTS, with more serious storytelling regarding Alex's time as a member of the Spider Squadron, characters either getting injured and/or killed, and almost without some form of Mood Whiplash.
