WMG / The Transformers: Dark Cybertron

Go To

The events of Dark Cybertron are triggered by
.

Shockwave will turn on Jhiaxus
  • It makes the most narrative sense, seeing as Shockwave's the one with the backstory fleshed out, and it will fit into the whole "student outdoes the master" idea. Perhaps he'll see Jhiaxus as a being too ruled by emotion and see it fit to dispose of him. Perhaps Jhiaxus will see him as a threat and try to get rid of him, only to fail.
  • Jossed, Jhiaxus yields to Shockwave's emotionless greater intelligence and willingly serves him.

Scourge will return
  • It's the big climactic event, so why not, he's been missing since Chaos ended, and Nova Prime's group is getting some of the spotlight again with all the revelations coming about them. In addition he's in the flashbacks in issue 1.
    • Jossed, Scourge is nowhere to be seen, the Sweeps show up, but he's gone.

Metroplex IS the Necrotitan
  • Oh, Crap!
    • Jossed. The Necrotitan is merely the Titan that Jhiaxus and Waspinator found on Gorlam Prime. The death Ore from that planet mixed with the life Ore on Cybertron, creating this monstrosity.

The Dead Universe is the future home of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic (IDW)
  • At least according to the guys at The Underbase podcast. It turns out that, according to their pet idea, someone chuck all the Ore-14 into to dying Dead Universe, made it regenerate, and that's how Equestria was born.
    • Also, Twilight Sparkle is a reincarnation of Cyclonus.

Metroplex and the Necrotitan will duke it out.
  • But first the Lost Light has to rescue him.
  • Confirmed and confirmed.

Megatron will assume command of the Lost Light.
  • After his Heel–Face Turn, Megatron will decide that there is no place on the new, peaceful, Cybertron for him, and, instead, becomes captain of the Lost Light (possibly with Soundwave or some other ex-Decepticons joining the crew), and leads them in their quest. This could create an arc of the present crew (who have been used to Rodimus' more relaxed demeanour) chafing under his leadership style (which is hard taskmaster, all the way)..
  • Confirmed, sort of. He's at least "co-captain" with Rodimus, and is under the impression that the title was a sop offered to Rodimus by Optimus so he wouldn't be upset. He's also specifically looking for the Knights of Cybertron because due to a legal technicality he is able to demand to be judged only by them in his trial. Time will tell if he is demands more focus on the task from the crew than Rodimus.

Bumblebee will come back from the dead.
  • It kinda makes sense since Hasbro probably wouldn't let Barber and Roberts kill Bumblebee... unless Barber and Roberts told them they were going to bring him back at some point. Besides, not everyone stays dead in these comics or Transformers fiction in general (lookin' at you, Ironhide!)

This is the final act (or at least penultimate act) of IDW's Generation 1 continuity
  • For one, all the Decepticons will have Heel Face Turns and most of the plot threads the IDW continuity revolves around (Shockwave's Regenesis program, the Dead Universe, Pax Cybertronia) will probably be concluded. Maybe the whole Windblade thing will be a Last Episode, New Character thing and a finale for the whole continuity. Plus IDW need to start making comics for Age of Extinction. After the build up to AOE is over and done with, there'll probably be a Continuity Reboot (like, presumably, the movie and aligned continuities will), creating all-new Transformers continuities. Here's hoping they propel the franchise for another 30 years.

Regarding MTMTME and RID Season 2:
  • Rodimus steps down from his leadership role on the Lost Light, specially after the berating he got from Orion Pax. He will also jump and become Orion Pax/Optimus Prime's second in command for RID season 2.
    • Either Bumblebee or Prowl will die during Dark Cybertron, which is why Optimus needs a new 2nd in command.
  • The leadership vacancy is what allows Megatron to become the new leader of the Lost Light for MTMTE season 2.
    • Somewhat Jossed. Rodimus' stepped down from leadership of the Lost Light for Megatron, but has simply demoted himself to second in command. Optimus even offered him a cookie in the form of telling Rodimus he would be "co-captain".

Metroplex beats the Necrotitan but will die as well.
  • After all, Magnus said "Burn bright one last time".
  • Jossed. Metroplex is messed up after the fight and badly in need of repairs, but still kicking.

The Dead Universe is Unicron.
  • Or at least an aspect of him, anyway .The crossover will end with him beginning to awaken.
    • This explains why the Dead Universe is sentient, and how the relatively tiny Unicron is able to devour entire universes: he sows enough destruction for the Dead Universe to permeate the main reality! Either it's an endemic aspect of Unicron, or an underlying reality where he was imprisoned by the Guiding Hand that he managed to corrupt and use to his own ends. Considering that Unicron is a multiversal singularity who is established to exist partially outside of the multiverse at any time, I vote for the former.
      • ...What does that make D-Void, exactly?
      • Either a vestige of Unicron's intelligence which evolved its own separate identity. "Stirring from slumber," so to speak. This would make a certain amount of sense, given that D-Void attempted to destroy Vector Sigma (fabled as the location of Primus). Or it might just another Eldritch Abomination taking up residence there, which would explain its "organic" aspects. If this is the case, it had really better hope that Unicron doesn't wake up and and get pissed that he's being lived in...
      • It was stated in Mike Costa's run that D-Void and the Dead Universe are one and the same. Maybe D-Void/The Darkness is a being that hijacked Unicron's home dimension or an offshoot being created by Unicron. Robots In Disguise has been foreshadowing that something capable of destroying entire planets is heading towards inhabited space (it destroyed LV-117, Jhiaxus keeps saying that "True Chaos" is coming, and the Distant Finale of Costa's run Alpha Trion said that Wheelie was first to see something called "the great destroyer") so this theory certainly seems possible.
    • Suddenly, Shockwave's plan to harness the Dead Universe's energies seems like a hugely, epically, tremendously bad idea.
    • Seemingly Jossed. The Dead Universe is Shockwave's doing.

Remnants of Shockwave's old life (pre-Shadowplay/empurata) will resurface within Shockwave...
... and will attempt to talk him out of going through with his master plan.
  • Or someone else will attempt to reach for the old Shockwave.
  • Confirmed. Optimus in particular is able to reach him during the time when his powers allow him to exist in all eras, and thus he has access to the time when he had his emotions and good spark.

Brainstorm's briefcase has a connection to the Dead Universe.
  • It's the reason why he keeps it close to him at all times, cuz its what keeps him alive, given the revelation he's undead as well.
  • Jossed. It's something else entirely.

Megatron joins the autobots because...
  • He promised Bumblebee, as Bumblebee lays dying, that he would make it up to everyone for all what he did as the leader of the Decepticons.
