WMG / The Sinners of Hell

Go To

The Gainax Ending is actually showing Yukiko and Sachiko Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence
  • In Buddhism, there is technically no eternal Hell in the similar vein as the Christian concept of Hell. What happens is a soul is born in heaven or hell depending on their deeds (good or bad) where they spend their karma until they are reborn in a different realm. Throughout the film, Yukiko and Sachiko are the least guilty characters compared to everyone we've met, but are sent to hell anyway perhaps for small sins they have done in life. Emphasis on "small." And because of that, their karma are cleansed quicker than usual, and the last we see of them is in bliss, being transported into a "higher world."
    • The final shot of the movie is the standard interpretation of "tengoku"— Heaven in Japanese. It seems to be implying that managing to save the baby, Shiro, Yukiko, and Sachiko get to go to Heaven.
