Colin Weasler might exist because execs were worried Beni was stereotypical enough to stir up controversy??
Whether he was, is a whole other kettle of fish, but Beni's character was kind of a parody of cowardice given human form. Creating Wealer, a stuffy British white gent was probably at least in part some manner of butt covering. With the medium change, Beni (like all the other characters) would have gained a new face & voice & could have easily led to an... unintended mishap. Idk, its just the only thing that makes a lick of sense.
The whole series takes place on an alternate universe.
It's the more logical explanation, duh.
In relation with the Universal Monsters tradition, all the monsters showed in Universal Horror exists here.
We know that werewolves exists here, and even Rick is infected with lycanthropy. Characters as Dracula (and vampires), Larry Talbot (and other werewolves as we see), Frankenstein's Monster, the Gill Man, Invisible Men, among others exist in this universe.
