The Carnotaurs were actually heavily mutated chameleons.
They could camouflage like a giant predatory chameleon, which no dinosaur could do in real life. And they were feared even by T. rex and Velociraptors. True carnotaurs can maybe terrorize raptors, or a sub-adult T. rex, but not a fully grown T. rex. Basically, they were mutated even in Jurassic Park's standards, and even more so than the venomous Dilphosaurus. Tampering with dinosaurs can dramatically change the environment in many different ways. Some of the local pet chameleons must've escaped and became carnotaurus-like creatures due to a mutation.
  • They'd have to be Hollywood Chameleons, since real ones don't have a camouflage ability.
  • In addition to the above, can you elaborate on just how exactly cloning dinosaurs would cause random fauna to mutate?

The Carnotaurs weird appearance actually makes perfect sense.
In Jurassic Park lore at least, so bear with me. I (as many others) first saw the movies, and later got in the novels, so a light green, big eyed, camoufagling chamelon-looking Carnotaurus sounded a bit too over the top even for the franchise standards, cause only a few Dinos have unrealistic "fantastic" abilities (can only think of the Dilophosaurus spitting venom right now) but then it hit me: in the first novel and contrary to the movie counterpart, Dr Wu mentions that they completed the DNA sequences not only with frog DNA but with a variety of animals! So it makes perfect sense that the Carnotaurus had those kind of camouflaging abilities cause it's DNA was completed with Chameleon DNA, granting them said abilities and appearance.
