Plagg's explanation of the Karma system was a Motivational Lie.
Since Adrien refused to believe that his actions were in any way, shape or form wrong due to his intense belief in Protagonist-Centered Morality, Plagg attempted to convince him that he needed to make amends by claiming that he was in danger of suffering from all of Lila's built-up karmic backlash. The idea behind this being that Adrien could at least be counted upon to act in his own self-interest.Sadly, it didn't work; Adrien blew off his warnings entirely, then latched onto them later as a way to convince himself that he was just a victim of circumstance and a Karmic Misfire.
